DESCRIPTION
CrossOver Mac allows you to install many popular Windows applications and games on Mac OS X. CrossOver includes an easy to use, single click interface, which makes installing Windows software simple and fast. Once installed, your application integrates seamlessly in OS X. Just click and run your application directly from the OS X Finder. Clicking a Windows file or document — including email attachments — will launch the appropriate Windows program, allowing you to work on the files. Best of all, you do it all easily and affordably, without needing a Microsoft operating system license.
Adding new Windows software is easy. Just place your install CD in your Mac, and CrossOver will recognize it and offer to begin the installation process. CrossOver then completes the installation and configures your application to run on your Mac. That's all there is to it.
CrossOver Mac will be the very best way to run your Windows applications on your Intel based Mac. It will let you install and run Windows programs as though they were native, all without having to buy or run a copy of Windows itself.
We strongly recommend that you review the list of Frequently Asked Questions prior to installing CrossOver. You may also want to browse the forums or search the Compatibility Center to see if your specific needs will be addressed.
At CodeWeavers, we believe strongly in truth in advertising. I have written a detailed description of our real world experience with CrossOver Mac through our rounds of testing. This way, you can be certain that this product will live up to your expectations...
Our guarantee: If you decide to purchase CrossOver Mac (even without reading the long description provided in the link above), and feel that you did not receive a fair value, we will refund your money, no questions asked.
Thank you for your interest in CrossOver and CodeWeavers,

SANJUANSKYWAY Have been playing with the demo for CO8 which I wanted to try with the new "official" support for IE7. I was hoping that I would be able to use it to test websites builds in IE7 and it does work when the site is up and running at a URL that IE7 can navigate to on the web. However I can't get it to open a local HTML file so that I can test a site that is not live. When I navigate to a site folder using IE7's "open" command all that it shows are folders and no files. Specifically it will not show the HTML file to open the site in the browser. I realize that IE7 is only at the "bronze" support level but being able to open a local file is critical (in this case) for my needs. Anyone out there had a different experience? I'd love to know as I would really like this to work so I can retire the old "Devils Tower" on the other side of the room. BTW I'm not trying to rip on Code Weavers, I understand that support for IE7 is new and that support for programs gets better over time. It's just that I need this particular feature for the CrossOver to be useful to me. (Version 8.0)

SIXTEENONE I too am looking into this for IE 6 & 7 testing locally. I dont understand why you are using the Open... command ! Using localhost or a Virtual Folder redirect in conjunction with modification to the hosts file works no problems... (Version 8.0)

CRUNC As long as you understand the limitations of Crossover (most importantly that it is only *fully* compatible with a *very* short list of Windows software, and that even then it can be flaky), it does have its uses. At the very least the ability to run Internet Explorer for Windows so you can access annoying web sites that are windows Internet Explorer only, is very useful if in fact you need to do that. Also it runs Windows Media Player pretty well and the Windows version is compatible with many more WMP files and streams then the Mac version. Beyond that, if you like to tinker, you will find that it at least partly runs a fair amount of Windows software that isn't officially supported, even more if you are capable of tinkering with the guts. Unlike running Windows software in VMWare Fusion or (egad!) Parallels, CrossOver is pretty memory efficient - you aren't running an entire OS in addition to your software - and you don't need to own a copy of Windows at all. So, for the right crowd, CrossOver is a useful tool and worth the asking price. (Version 8.0)

ROOSTER Why is this categorized on MacUpdate as FREE when it's not. If the free offer was in October then it makes sense., but this is not October. Anyway, I have never been able to get much to run with this software. Sure some of the most common things work but only with little quirks and stability issues. I have had better luck using opensource or other native 3rd part Mac apps to replicate desired Windows only applications. I'm not really nocking this system because I really like the idea but I just wish it worked better. (Version 7.1.2)

MACNERD1984 I tried this under the free promotion, so feel a bit of a sh1t bagging on it, but in all honesty I can't say it's much good. I only need it to run one app - Access 2003. It can't seem to do that. I've spent an hour messing with it, have read through the support forums on the site etc. and still it won't work. Original install of 2003 won't open my mdb file and installing SP2 to it is apparently impossible (yes, I have read the info on how to do it). By contrast, Parallels just works. I just had to install Windoze and Awffice and I was up and running. I just don't have time to geek about with stuff just to get basic functionality. The whole reason I own a Mac is that it makes difficult or time consuming stuff easy and intuitive. This app goes against that for me. For something like Office to not work, especially an older version that is installed on millions of machines worldwide, is lame. It's not obscure and it's probably the most popular PC App on the planet so how come it won't just run? Installing SP2 was yet another nightmare and after ages spent faffing around the SP2 installer still has to quit due to some error. I would love this app to work so I can avoid having to have a full Windoze install on my Macs, but it just seems like too much of a pain in the hole to get it up and running, and I've got better stuff to do with my time than waste it tweaking bits of SW. ['m sure there are those out there who have managed to get it to work, and since it's such a great concept then I'm envious of you all, but it's not happening on my machines. Shame. (Version 7.1)

X23 hmmm... for a press release that says : "free software for every American on Oct. 28" and lists zero time zone cut-offs... seems like those in states 49 and 50 aren't actually considered "American" by the folks at CodeWeavers. seem to recall Hawaii and Alaska being mentioned quite often this year too... guess it didn't sink in. ERIC30 I don't see any benefit in running crossover with apps that have an alternative for Mac (Photoshop, Office, ...). The apps that I do want to see running with it, just don't. That makes it useless to me. Or is it just me ? (Version 7.1)

EASER I looked at Wine and any related products. Frankly, I don't care if CrossOver Mac is using that as the basis of its software. I find CrossOver Mac's interface to be very user friendly. If they've repackaged Wine, so be it; it still works well for me. I need to learn the PC version of MS Office, and I much prefer a program like COM over having to spend a fortune on both Windoze and MS Office. MS Office seems to work just fine with COM; indeed, I can drag and drop files onto the Windoze Office icons, and the files open. Pretty handy. I've also found customer support to be very good.
