DESCRIPTION
Thoth's built-in decoder for file attachments handles the usual encoding methods, including yEnc. Images from binary posts can be viewed inline, in a dedicated image window, or in an image catalog window. Binary posting is supported, as are multiple personalities allowing different email addresses, signatures, etc. to be used in different newsgroups or situations.

Thoth offers powerful and flexible filtering of usenet posts, including live filtering. Reference-based article threading is available, along with with a handy view of the thread in the window of the article you're reading. Multiple news servers can be used at the same time, with multiple connections per news server.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.8.4:
  • Worked around a problem with some news servers such as Giganews that return an unexpected 503 response code for the XHDR command for unavailable header types. The 503 response is defined for the newer HDR command but is not a standard response for the XHDR command. Also modified XHDR command handling to allow 225 as a successful response code (the correct command successful code for the newer HDR command) in addition to the standard 221 response. Thoth has also accepted the 224 response that is erroneously returned by some Microsoft news servers for many years (224 is the correct response code for the XOVER command).
  • Modified the wording of the checkbox in the “Maximum Number to Fetch” dialogs from “Mark Unshown Posts Read” to “Mark “Maximum Number” Unread and Older Posts Read” and updated the User Guide to explain what this option does.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later.

GARY W.  Wow, still no update to Universal/Intel. Is it really that hard? I don't know. Maybe it is. It's just that I can't imagine too many people these days paying 25.00 for PPC only software.

That aside, of course Thoth is a great newsreader, best out there, IMHO. Still waiting and hoping for an update to Intel, and still willing to pay additional for it.

Am I alone?  (Version 1.8.4)

MAC SMALL  Sadly Brian Clark will no longer take money (mine was returned) or issue serial numbers for Thoth.

The best such program around is now officially dead, although still works fine if you have a serial number.  (Version 1.8.3)

GARY W.  I've used and loved Thoth for a long time, but an Intel version is a must now for me when choosing software.

I would gladly pay another $25 dollars for an Intel version, on top of the previous fee I paid for the PPC version.

Please, other users of Thoth, if you feel the same way make it known here and elsewhere.  (Version 1.8.3)

TIM27  I visited the author's site because I was interested after seeing this on macupdate. I can sympathize wiht his position about not wanting to release an Intel version and all that. But, I have to say that if you really want to make money producing software, you have to spend money. Just like producing anything else.

I've never even heard of this program before seeing it on here today. You need to advertise it. And if you don't update your software for the latest technologies, who is going to want to buy it? There is a chance that Rosetta apps will not be supported at all in future versions of OS X. Maybe the distanct future, but still.

It has been stated that Thoth 2 will never be released. Then how can you expect people to want to pay for this version?

That aside, it seems like a friendly program.  (Version 1.8.3)
