DESCRIPTION
Thoth's built-in decoder for file attachments handles the usual encoding methods, including yEnc. Images from binary posts can be viewed inline, in a dedicated image window, or in an image catalog window. Binary posting is supported, as are multiple personalities allowing different email addresses, signatures, etc. to be used in different newsgroups or situations.

Thoth offers powerful and flexible filtering of usenet posts, including live filtering. Reference-based article threading is available, along with with a handy view of the thread in the window of the article you're reading. Multiple news servers can be used at the same time, with multiple connections per news server.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.8.4 (revised May 31, 2009):
  • Worked around a problem with some news servers such as Giganews that return an unexpected 501 or 503 response code for the XHDR command for unavailable header types. Other changes were made so that a filtering failure caused by this type of server problem should no longer prevent opening an article list window.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later.

RAINBIRD  This develover has been promising a universal binary version of this news reading utility for some time. He is basing the need to finalize version 1.90(UB) on the number of people that buy the PPC version 1.84. This is the only developer in the Mac Universe that pulls this cr*p. Brian, just release it already! If you deliver a product that people want they will buy it, including me!

REDHAWK2009  Just wanted to note that this version (1.8.4) is for sale, and not just an update for already registered users. The developer has a Paypal link on his site and he will send you a registration once you pay. I have wanted to buy this program for ages and am glad I finally have been able to do so, because it really is the best newsreader out there on any platform, bar none.

TOADMETAL  It's SO ridiculous that this lame idiot is still pulling the same ol sh*t that has been going on for years and years with this program. With the same discussions that populated in the mac newsgroups as well. Yeah I liked this program too but I've moved on because this guy just doesn't seem to give a dam whether you buy it or not. I use Unison now and I couldn't be happier.

RPAEGE  Somebody needs to purchase the rights to Thoth and then update it. It really is a great work, but it is long in the tooth. It's bound to break sooner or later (maybe with 10.6).

I am ready with my upgrade fee if I ever get the chance to spend it.

GARY W.  Wow, still no update to Universal/Intel. Is it really that hard? I don't know. Maybe it is. It's just that I can't imagine too many people these days paying 25.00 for PPC only software.

That aside, of course Thoth is a great newsreader, best out there, IMHO. Still waiting and hoping for an update to Intel, and still willing to pay additional for it.

Am I alone?

MAC SMALL  Sadly Brian Clark will no longer take money (mine was returned) or issue serial numbers for Thoth.

The best such program around is now officially dead, although still works fine if you have a serial number.
