MACG Insomnia is working flawlessly thus far on my OSX 10.5. Im worried about Secure Virtual Memory and hibernation. Is there any precautions that I can take to make sure my system doesn't crash? (Version 1.3.3)

JOE HETTIARACHCHY This version of HamachiX does not work properly with the new Macbooks that were released this week. When sleep mode is enabled and the computer sleeps, the battery gets completely drained within about 5 hours. Also, when the lid is opened, the computer doesn't resume from "sleep" mode. I have to push buttons the keyboard and move the mouse around before it will resume. (Version 1.3.3)

ASTORGA By the way, it also flips my macbook's camera on and off, as if I had closed and opened the lid every few minutes. Please help me get rid of your software. (Version 1.3.3)

ASTORGA Hello, developers of insomniax. I've tried your software, because in my old PC I liked to close the lid and leave downloads active, as well as other internet software that refreshes constantly, and Mr. Jobs hasn't taken time as of yet for the groundbreaking research of this feature. So I downloaded InsomniaX, which I thought was as a possible solution. Unfortunately (and I appreciate your effort), it still cut the internet in My Leppard-based Macbook (Mac OS X 10.5.3 - 9D34 - Kernel Version: Darwin 9.3.0), and so I went on to remove it. ... and I had the usual "absence of uninstall"problem: I made sure I disabled "sleepless mode" (or whatever), then quit the program. Then I removed the .app from the App folder, and looked for the kext, which was in the /InsomniaX folder in ~/Library/Application Support, I think. I moved the folder with the kext to a backup corner of my HD, as I did the app, and there I was. Surprise, surprise: As I found out the next morning, whenever my computer goes (lid open) to sleep, as normal, prior-to-insomniax energy saver instructions tell him to, I cannot wake him up anymore by sliding my finger across the trackpad, or by just pressing any key! I have to actually close the lid and open it again. It's not only wildly annoying, but also shortens the life of the lid mechanism. Forgive me if I'm somewhat disappointed that the program wrote a kext on my mac-equivalent-"registry" by my merely double-clicking the app, without any prior warning. (It just gave me an "I did it" acknowledge screen.) Please instruct me on how to revert this picture, since the mere removal of the folder and the kext didn't do any good. Since InsomniaX has likely written something on my "registry", I urgently need to know what to do in my specific case. I have no Terminal experience whatsoever and need your guidance.

BTGXCELL InsomniaX 1.3.3 is a great application for my Macbook. It does what it says its supposed to do and is very easy to use. However, there is system instability with the hibernate function which the developer is currently trying to sort out. When there are issues with such a function, it should be left out or placed in a beta build, not a final version. Also, the icons are a bit too cartoonish for me and display in color on the menu bar. Within the package, there is an alternative icon set, which is not accessible by any feature; therefore, I renamed it and overwrote the cartoon set and made a few variations and created a new grayscale set. This graphic alternative is available for download on the developers site in the comments section: http://semaja2.net/insomniaxinfo/#comment-33948 To the developer, this graphic update is not an official release by anyone, and is just my personal preference for having this alternative icon set. You have permission if you wish to post it. (Version 1.3.3)

NCIANCA Why is it that software authors who install kernel extensions refuse to provide information regarding where they install these and/or provide uninstall/removal information? (Version 1.3.3)

MACUPDATE ADMIN You mean you've asked the developer and the developer refused to tell you? Or do you mean the developer has neglected to post the info you require? (Version 1.3.3)
| Nov 5 2007 |
SEMAJA2.NET You never asked, and i would of been happy to tell you. However just for everyones sake, the most recent versions (excluding Legacys) store the kext in ~/Library/Application Support/InsomniaX The kexts are only loaded when you enable Insomnia, when disabled the kexts are unloaded. (Version 1.3.3)

NCIANCA I should have been more specific in my comment. I never did ask the developer, it was more of a "refusal" from a documentation and/or program point of view rather then the need to actually ask the question from the developer. IMHO any software that installs something outside of the scope of the application bundle should automatically provide full removal instructions in the documentation or application and have an uninstall option (if possible) for said software. I also think that software should ask before installing additional software, which I don't think Insommia did. (Version 1.3.3)

SEMAJA2.NET This is the standard way that Apple wants developers to develop their applications. The application support folder is used by many applications and is free to do so, the use of system folders though would make sense to document. However 100s of applications such as adium make use of the application support folder with no documentation. PS. I will add this to the readme (Version 1.3.3)

NCIANCA I agree that the Application Support folder is where things should go. However, when I hear the term kernel extension I think of something that goes in /Library/Extensions or /System/Library/Extensions (where some programs will put them). Thanks for adding the clarification to the docs. (Version 1.3.3)

I have a similar problem. After uninstalling InsomniaX (Removing the files indicated in the readme file) My macbook still go to hibernation after closing the lid. It takes ages to start up again, so I would really appreciate to restore all settings as they where before installing InsomniaX.

PETRONIUS This is a huge soft, but won't load anymore under Leopard. Please update it, I really do love it and cannot understand why apple would not integrate such an option into its OS ! (Version 1.3.2)

JAVAWEBUI I just installed InsomniaX 1.2 on my Intel MacBook C2D, running 10.4.9. Works great! I have my MacBook plugged into a Gefen DVI KVM so I can share keyboard/mouse/DVI monitor between my PC and my MacBook. The problem has been that when I switch from the MacBook to the PC, if the lid is closed, the MacBook goes to sleep. With InsomniaX, now the MacBook stays awake even with the screen closed, so I have instant switching, working just how I wanted. (Version 1.2)
