DESCRIPTION
Visor provides a systemwide terminal window accessible via a hotkey, much like the consoles found in games such as Quake.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.1:
  • [darwin] support for SIMBL 0.9.x
  • [darwin] 64-bit version for 64-bit Terminal.app in Snow Leopard
  • [darwin] embedded Visor preferences pane into Terminal.app Preferences Window
  • [darwin] you can activate Visor by double tapping Control key (disabled by default)
  • [darwin] generated Visor profile does not use bold bright fonts
  • [darwin] resetting window size is performed only in rare cases of visor reconfiguration (fixed headaches with 'jumping lines', also fixed performance issue)
  • [darwin] 'restore app key focus' applescript checks if app which has to be restored is still alive (prevents reopening closed app when leaving Visor)
  • [darwin] removed dependency on QuartzCore.framework
  • [darwin] XCode project cleanup, executable now includes binaries for x86_64, i386 and ppc architectures

DOOBIEXX  Works perfectly on SL. Visor is back!! No more having to use 32bit terminal... thank you to everyone who contributes on old blacktree products like this one... if it wasn't for benevolent people we would be screwed. Thank you. And it works great on SL folks 64bit confirmed. Grabbed it last night.

LEE123  It would be nice to have a little clarification on How this is compatible with Snow leopard when the SIMbl hack used is the older leopard one. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

SHOCK J  Just because there is a newer version of SIMBL doesn't mean the old one doesn't work at all under Snow Leopard. I have Visor 2.0 and SIMBL 1.82 installed on Snow Leopard and it works as expected.

LEE123  Hey, I am all for it but when you visit the SIMBL site there are clearly issues he has fixed for Snow Leopard. This is what my comment referenced to. Again, it would be nice to have some clarification on this issue. The developer website would be a good place to explain such discrepancies.

SHOCK J  This will all be irrelevant very soon. From Visor web site:

"v2.1 (to be released)

* 64-bit version for 64-bit Terminal.app in Snow Leopard (using new SIMBL 0.9.x)'

SHOCK J  Spark cannot do what Visor does. Visor is not an app launcher. Visor alters the presentation method of the Terminal.

VGZ  Needs to be updated for Leopard. It will attempt to load with the new version of SIMBL, showing up in the menubar, but Terminal will crash immediately afterwards.

MACUPDATE_ACCOUNT  As VGZ says, Leopard Terminal will crash immediately if SIMBL/Visor tries to load it. However, the Tiger Visor/VisorTerminal application will continue to work fine in Leopard, so I highly recommend you keep a copy of that around until Visor (hopefully) gets updated.

I'm really looking forward to a tabbed Visor Terminal.

MONDELE  This is a cool piece of software I find myself using a lot. So much, that I tracked down a hack to not have Terminal running in the background. http://log-everything.blogspot.com/2006/06/visor-dirrrrty-hack.html has step-by-step instructions for creating a hacked terminal that doesn't show in the dock.

In the features department, it would be nice to have Window Settings preferences available in Visor, rather than the kludge of doing it in Terminal, but in all, it works very well.

HENRIKTEKNIK  Kinf of nice, but you need to make it so that this app can open *without* having a normal Terminal window being opened at the same time, *and*, without needing to have the Terminal, in order to invoke the Visor thing.

Otherwise it's a nice idea. Good luck improving it further. Thanks.

CROP  Totally useless... I just don't understand the goal...

A "systemwide" way to send bash commands WITHOUT having Terminal.app running would be GREATLY appreciated. But since Terminal.app MUST be running for Visor to work, why shouldn't we just have to click on its dock icon?

Did I miss something?

CROP  Well, I like shortcuts too :P but :

1- I don't need a thousandth one;

2- I don't need two more processes running in the background.

3- I've been harsh because, at a first look, I really thought this app was... well, really "something"...

BTW, what does "systemwide" mean, after all?

Sometimes my phone rings and Ooops! I need my adress book Right Now! A cool shortcut and it's here...

Let's try to figure with Terminal:

The phone rings... Hey! It's Gran'Ma! Where's my terminal!!?

(just kiddin')

MACMINICOOPER  This is way to cool! Very fast access to a terminal window via a keyboard command. You do need to install SIMBL since this is a plug-in for it.
