DESCRIPTION
Yep... Photos have iPhoto. Music has iTunes. But when it comes to PDFs and other office documents, you're on your own. That is, until now. Now there is Yep and there's no looking back.
Start Yep for the first time and it automatically shows you all your PDFs, iWork and Office documents. The strength in Yep is being able to see your documents and search through them with out needing to worry where exactly you saved it to. Add your own tags to documents--which is like storing them in two places at once. Yep also has the ability to automatically file documents into a simple date based folder system located in your Documents folder. The result is that its easy to keep a running track record of receipts, invoices, research papers--without having to think about where to store it.
And you might even think that iPhoto, iTunes and the Finder could learn a thing or two from Yep.
For paper.
Every house has cardboard boxes and filing cabinets full of receipts, important medical records, old letters and income tax returns, usually inconveniently stuck in the basement somewhere.
Now that Yep makes it so easy to keep all your documents organized - whereever they lay, instantly retrievable and searchable, it might just be time to start scanning some of those paper documents into your computer and Yep will help you do it. Yeps scanning is faster and a lot nicer than the any bundled scanning software you are going to find. Say goodbye to cheesy scanner interfaces from all the big scanner companies.
In addition to creating PDFs by scanning, Yep creates text files from dragged in text without any naming or filing on your part. You can create image files the same way. Keep track of your notes and thoughts without letting the dreary job of filing getting in your way. All documents Yep creates are 'normal' files on your filesystem. No databases to worry about.
MacUpdate Testimonial
Most of the MacUpdate staff live very mobile lives. We understand what it's like to have your desks overflow with clutter from mail, bank statements, bills, letters, and other paper documents. That clutter makes our mobile lives more challenging. That's why we love Yep.
Yep helps make important documents like receipts, medical records, income tax returns, bank statements and important letters more accessible. Often these documents are stored away in filing cabinets in a storage room, or crammed in desk drawers. MacUpdate loves Yep because it helps you scan these important documents into your Mac.
Once your documents are scanned, they become instantly searchable and organized in one central location. You will no longer have to hunt for your documents all over the office or house. Yep is going to save you a lot of time and give you a digital backup copy of your documents for peace-of-mind.
Yep is scanner friendly, but doesn't require one. It can organize all of the documents already on your Mac (like PDFs). It makes them all searchable and way more organized.
One of the most amazing synergies is to combine Yep with the mailing scanning services of Earth Class Mail. Then all of the mail that normally clutters your house can be automatically scanned and emailed to you. Then use Yep to organize and retrieve that mail really quickly.

DR. GIRLFRIEND I really like Yep, but I have to admit, as a paying customer, I've been disappointed. When an app like this -- so central to my workflow -- goes so long without an update or bugfix, that makes me upset. I bought Yep when it was first released and I was very happy initially. That happiness soured as time went on and none of the bugs were being fixed and no improvements to the product were applied. Instead, Ironic released several new products (Leap, TagIt, Fresh, and Deep) some of which duplicated functionality already present in Yep. I think that under the circumstances, and given how long it's taken Ironic to address the bugs in Yep v1, everyone who bought v1 should be given a free upgrade to v2. Not fixing major bugs and then charging for an update stinks of Adobe-ism. Please don't go down that road. There are other document management products available and though it would pain me to have to switch, I'll do it in a heartbeat if Ironic doesn't address this issue in a way that is fair to its very patient customers who have already paid for Yep v1. RC62 If you launch Yep 2.0 and select "BUY" when prompted for the license it will give you a pop-up with a "discount code". Just follow the instructions. Funny thing though is when I tried to use the code it gave me I got an error that says my purchase ($34)was below the required minimum for the discount code. wtf? Not a great system for upgrading imho. (Version 2.0.0)

TANKKNIGHT I also do not get upgrade option even after selecting the "Buy" option. I'm going back to v1.8. Heck, even if I got the upgrade option I think paying $34 (RC62 states) to upgrade is a little steep with it being only a $5 discount as full price is $39. (Version 2.0.0)

TOM ANDERSEN We are working on an email to notify yep owners of the upgrade system, which will make Yep 2 a $19 US upgrade. This may take a week or so. If you would like to upgrade now, please email ironicsupport@gmail.com with your serial number, and we will email you an upgrade code for you to use. (Version 2.0.0)

SHMK I bought the whole Leap package thing but I won't be upgrading. I find the whole "tagging" thing for organizing my files a bit tenuous and not for me, I think I will stick to a hierarchical folder structure for now. Also the fact that the OpenMeta thing was developed by one of the developers at Ironic Software makes me feel like I am putting all my eggs in a pretty flimsy basket, one which apple could topple at any time. RICRIC A useful application - once one has earned it's benefits they will get to become familiar apps on which you come to reply. So maybe this cautionary tale is for you: I bought Yep at the end of May (27th) this year 2008.. Now just over three months notice I am asked to pay and extra license to use Yep2. That is a pretty miserable license life. As a user of Leap, Yep, Deep, Fresh - I would have expected a more warm and sensitive approach to such license expiry dates. Sadly they don't appear to. So you've created another unhappy customer. Perhaps you the sort of people who don't care what your customers feel. Good luck then, may you remember the displeasure of your disappointed customers long in to your old age. Think on these things, Richard Chiswell (Version 2.0b2)

TMYERS22551 I bought Yep in last year's December MacUpdate Bundle. It was one of those "throw-ins" that I would have never bought or tried. It's now one of my favorites and I now consider Yep essential to my daily Mac experience. Instead of making paper copies, I use the feature "print PDF copy to Yep" for just about everything that I want filed or managed. It automatically keeps track of all my PDF files, and if I drag a photo to Yep, it makes at PDF copy and tracks that too. I have lots of files and photos that I use for my ancestry data and family history. Yep makes child's play of keeping that data organized for me. I've been a Mac user since the days of the Mac Plus, and I have hundreds of programs that I've used. A few have become essential to my Mac software family. Yep has become one of my essential programs. For me, it has been stable, no observed problems with their updates, and it's feature rich. I don't endorse many programs, but I think Yep deserves at least a try. (Version 1.8)

KORM I bought all of Ironic's products in a bundle five months ago. I installed Yep 2 assuming (wrong!) that it would work on the license I just bought. Doesn't. It offers a discount code IF you purchase all four products in a bundle again. But, the code doesn't discount anything - it doesn't reduce the bundle price at all. So, recent purchasers don't get a working product if they install Yep 2. You don't get a chance to buy an upgrade just for Yep - you're suppose to buy everything they make in order to save a few bucks. But the "discount" offer is bogus. Owners are triple cursed by this Halloween trick. (Oh, and the site doesn't provide a way to download the previous version. Install v2 and you're out of luck.) (Version 2.0.1)

BODACIOUS I'd really like to know where Yep is heading. I personally used it as a "nifty database" for ebooks that provided easy and somewhat structured access to manuals, reviews, encyclopedias, etc. If it expands in this direction I think it will fill this "ebook database" market nicely, especially if djvu formats are included. One thing I noticed with ver 1.8 was it's sluggishness, so I'm willing to give 2.0 a try if it improves that. Also, going away from an internal pdf viewer should make supporting other fileformats (djvu for example) much easier and I'd expected this as part of a major upgrade. I don't necessarily like that Yep is starting to advertise itself as a program that collects various small pdf files, such as receipts, electronic documents, etc. There are other programs out there that already do that job (Paperless for example) and going down this niche route will prevent it from being useful to a whole share of other people. Again, I believe there are niche markets out there and managing a collection of ebooks is probably the bigger of them. I'm currently also using Papers for journal articles and like it alot, even though it's specialized. I might have to use that for all of my PDFs, depending on where Yep is heading.
