DESCRIPTION
Edgies is an alternative application for Stickies. Just like Classic Mac's Popup Window, tab-style memo windows stick to the edges of the screen, dragging text to a screen edge makes a new memo tab.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.6:
  • Added the function to backup and restore previous versions of documents.
  • Added the function to change alarm sound.
  • Fixed the bug around creating a new memo with holding modifier key.
  • Changed document file type.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

LIBCRYPT  I've been using Edgies for about 4 months now, and while the features are very nice, the stability is poor. I lose notes that don't appear until I restart the app. Edge action doesn't always work. When note color is changed, very odd behaviors can result, e.g., the entire note turns black. There are also some behavior "quirks" that need to be smoothed out, such as how the title updates when dynamic updating is enabled.

I like the app, so I hope the developer spends some time improving it.

LUMINOUSPATH  Whenever I tried to export an Edgie note the shareware notice would come up and wouldn't close. Each time I tried to close it, it would open up two more windows of itself. Eventually I had to force quit the application. I've always thought that the nag screens in Mac shareware were pretty offensive (isn't a trial period enough?) but this is ridiculous. I won't be using this program until this issue is...addressed, and sure as hell won't consider paying for it.

MNM  I do think the trial period should be more like 30 days. I also think that the term "shareware" should go away, as it's misleading.

Along with many others (including me awhile back) you're wrong by thinking shareware is the same as freeware or donationware. By definition, even Photoshop is shareware since you can download a trial before buying.

I haven't purchased Edgies yet as I'm still evaluating other stickies replacements, but from my experience so far it's the best of the bunch and just $10. The developer deserves to be paid for the effort if you're going to use it. Even if it was crap... if someone uses it, whoever went to the bother of making it should be paid. If no one uses it because it's crap, the developer needs to raise the bar and do a better job so he can make money.

Uggh. People wanting something for nothing is just as bad as corporate greed.

EASER  I don't like this as much as DropDrawers. I don't like DragThing's method of incorporating DropDrawers. What I did discover was that DropDrawers (I kept a copy) has worked just fine on my Intel with Leopard. (And I'm on 10.5.4.) I've never had a single problem with it. Wish it were still being developed.

SGGINC  Strange ... I downloaded the file and the dock version had the hide doc icon option. Perhaps the developer just replaced the download file????

MACUPDATE ADMIN  "Perhaps the developer just replaced the download file?"

Likely so, and updated it to version 2.5.3, but it was the exact same link that we had posted for 2.5.2, and the same link now downloads 2.5.3.

FFASS  I have one problem with this app: new Edgies notes are created when I click at the screen edge. Setting the preferences to disable this feature does not stop the action. I deleted the preferences file but the problem persists. I have a dual monitor set-up on a MacPro, with all the latest Apple updates. This one problem makes this app unusable for me.

PAUL WIRTH  I'm running Tiger and it DOES appear that the notes are spotlight searchable now (in response to previous comment).

I love this application. I played around with a half dozen stickies replacements, as well as many note-taking applications and Edgies, with its customizable, stay-out-of-the-way- until-needed format is perfect. Runner-up was SideNote, which is also a shelf-style notepad (and free), but I shelled out the $9.99 for Edgies within 5 minutes for its customizability, spotlight searchability, and equally importantly, its snappy and fun feel.

MATTOC  Love the way it works. Love how easily it can be customized. Double love the bubble previews.

Two things that would make this a perfect app for me:

The ability to create a new note with just a key command.

Make the notes Spotlight searchable.

Great app that's going to stay on my machine.

MATTOC  Just realized that the notes can be easily exported as RTF and then they ARE Spotlight searchable.

TUISHIMI  I used to use OS X Notes, then sidenote; I prefer edgies. It is chock full of options, yet presented in a very simple and easy-to-use manner. I really did not mind paying the small shareware fee for this application. Well worth it.
