DESCRIPTION
There are a lot of ways to approach burning discs. Burn keeps it simple, but still offers a lot of advanced options.

Create data discs with advanced data settings like, file permissions, the disc icon, file dates and more on the fly. Create video and audio discs without worrying about conversion. Create your personalized DVD-Video discs using themes. Recreate discs and disc images you all ready have.

Burn doesn't reinvent the wheel, it uses many powerful open source Unix utilities and is also open source.

MLBKXBX  This app deserves some serious credit!

I wouldn't know where to look if burn wasn't available. There's not even a commercial burning app on the mac platform that's as good IMHO.

Burn works very well, and looks pretty slick too. The only things i miss is a few more preference options, and an updated app icon (it's not hideous, but it's not very pretty either).

Oh, and i just donated 10 bucks to the burn project. If you have a few bucks left over, consider doing the same! :)

NAOH  I thought I'd add a little feature request here, as the Sourceforge pages for Burn don't seem to have an obvious way of doing this.

It would be useful to have an indicator that showed if the amount of data that is due to be burned will actually fit on the disc.

Some of the people who I have recommended Burn to have given up on it because it won't fit 4.7GB on a DVD. I had to explain to them that computers traditionally calculate storage capacity differently, and that a DVD will only accommodate 4.38GB, not the 4.7GB that is written on the box that the blank DVDs come in.

(Of course, with Snow Leopard, that all changes.)

One option I thought of was to make the indicator that shows how much data is due to be burned on the disc change colour, or a line of text could appear which reads something like: "Too much data for one CD" and "Too much data for a single layer DVD"

DONMONTALVO  Just wanted to thank all the Burn developers for giving us the best burning application in the Mac world. It's easy to use, and works great. Zero issues burning movies, or data, or even bootable discs. Kudos!

Bye bye Roxio!

JON555  My biggest beef with this app is, a) it's not updated often enough and, b) the UI and app icon are a bit dated.

That said, this is a fantastic burning app that works well and is feature-rich. A great alternative to paying Roxio for Toast. Keep up the awesome work devs!

HANDINI  Burn was working great until the other day. I was converting videos and all of a sudden it no longer can convert the videos and reports an unknown error.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

When I drag previously converted videos from burn into Toast 6 I get a Mac OS Error -50 but none of the forums online explain video conversion as the cause for this error and I am not sure if it's related.

CHRISCHRAM  Version 2.3 crashes too often to be useful on my Intel iMac under Mac OS X 10.5.7. There is a link in the author's blog for an Intel-only version 2.1 that is much more stable.

CHRISCHRAM  I should have mentioned that the crashes occur when making a DVD during the MPEG2 conversion.

HANDINI  So where is the authors blog?

It crashed while encoding an avi file to an mpg.

TOROSROSS  Great piece of software, thank you.

My only suggestion is to add an option to eject the disk after burning.

Cheers!

JOSHMUNKEY  Again, RiDATA DVD+R DL troubles. This time Burn 2.3u, but thankfully it ejected the DVD rather than going in infinite loop.

ROBK  Have you ever been able to Burn these Ridata discs with another Burning Program? Perhaps it is not the Burn program but the inability of your hardware to burn Ridata discs.

I had a similar problem with Verbatim CD's. It would hang at the closing session stage. It made no difference what the burning program I used. I had to switch to a different Brand CD. Now I can burn without any problems.

JOSHMUNKEY  Coincidentally, I verified that the batch of DVD+R DL's from RiDATA were without error or issue with the inner workings of OSX just tonight by using Apple's Disk Utility application. It handled the burn fine and reported back zero errors. The content was the exact same as what I wanted Burn 2.3u to handle. Very odd.

Burn handles my other standard DVD's just fine, so I guess that I'll just go to the Disk Utility in the future if I want to burn a DL. Too bad it cost me 2 DVD+R DL's to find out the proper course of action...

JOSHMUNKEY  Encountered major error when burning RiDATA DVD+R DL. Application hung indefinitely in "closing session" phase before verification could begin. Allowed copious amounts of time to see if app would fix itself. It didn't. Quit yielded no results; force quit disappeared UI but app hung in dock. DVD would not mount on desktop nor eject by any means. Force rebooted, but DVD still in burn mode would not allow the computer to reboot. Cut power, rebooted. DVD would not mount nor eject. Rebooted again, this time holding eject button at chime. Worked. Following link has screen cap of error report: http://tinyurl.com/qu4ssc
