I disagree with you. I'm a small biz owner (just myself) as well.

I tried Contactizer several times and was almost ready to buy it when 10.5.2 came out. Then it quit working with some weird error that their devs couldn't even figure out. Their response was finally to reformat the drive and see if that works. There were several more cases of the same error in the forums.

Reformat my drive to try software? Don't get me wrong. Contactizer is a good product that competes well.

That's when I tried Daylite and after about 30 days of using it, I purchased it and haven't looked back. It does exactly what I want it to do and more.

I even use the custom form feature to add to the product to track my company software purchases and license numbers which were haphazardly stored in email flagged by Mailtags.

Now I keep what I can stored in Daylite so when backing up, it's in one DB.

A downside to Contactizer is that it will not sync custom recurring calendar events which in hindsight, I'm glad I purchased Daylite instead because that is a REAL plus. Another great feature of Daylite is their plugin architecture. They have plugins for Billings and another accounting system along with other misc. programs.

While Contactizer is a solid product, Daylite has been more flexible for my needs. Evaluate both products (you need at least 30 days with both products to understand how they flow) then decide.

If iCal sync for custom recurring events and syncing with other apps is reuqired, then Daylite may be what you need.

LAWRENCE GOODMAN  I am a single user with fairly humble needs and perhaps that's the reason I came to this viewpoint, but this product is really bloatware. It can do many sophisticated things, but many basics are a complete pain in the butt. The calendar display is atrocious and Daylite knows this, but has done nothing to fix it. Linking events and tasks to contacts is also cumbersome.

For my needs, Contactizer has proven much, much better. If I were a small business, it would probably be different, but I would still urge anyone considering this product to look at alternatives.

Also now that my experience was that the developers were not responsive to customers. You'll find a lot of this on their forums if you search around.

WPDV  Today, MarketCircle, Inc. completed beta testing of Daylite 3.5 (of which 20 + betas were released)!

Many users (myself included) volunteered to be beta testers for this important release, and as became evident to those of us testing, MarketCircle was serious about doing this right the first time (multi-user syncing). In my opinion, they succeeded!

Daylite 3.5 is a sophisticated business tool for the Mac. It can be used by a single user or many users. There is definitely a learning curve... but with the online forum and email support (from the company), you'll usually get several suggestions on how best to solve your particular issue.

With Daylite 3.5, if I am on the phone with a particular client, I can view ALL of the items I have attached to this client within one window (ie; tasks; notes; emails; referrals; meetings & appointments; proposals; opportunities; items I've delegated; desktop files; contracts; photos; etc)!!!

If retaining copies of your client's emails and attachments (after being deleted from Apple's Mail) is important to you like it is to me, then you will want to have the DMI module. I have found this to be an invaluable add-on.

If you have been sitting on the fence, watching this product mature, and have been waiting for the syncing aspects of Daylite to be fully realized, the time to try it out is now. Before starting though, take the time to perform a final sync of your mobile devices, backup your Apple Address Book and your iCal databases, and then follow Daylite's instructions.

Once you are all setup, and have performed some cleanup within your database (eliminating duplicates, etc), I know you'll find that you be pleased with your choice!

PHALERON  The concept behind Daylite is quite remarkable. I have nothing but praise for the interface and business sense that has gone into it. All the info is right there in front of you in one click.

But the performance rules this application out for me. First of all it is slow, and doesn't play well (or not at all) with existing Apple core 10.4.7 technology like Mail and iCal, but requires these databases to be imported externally, or use additional pluggins (at your cost) to link up to your mail. It is interesting to see that in comparison OD4Contact info collection and presentation (out of nearly 500 contacts, and over 2000 emails) is instantaneous, whereas Daylite churns away at every turn.

Moreover, we are at version 3 and the handling of UTF8 fonts has actually got worse than in ver 1 (I reported this during my ver 1 tryout also). While an initial run of a client-list db with non-Latin characters went on without issues, upon relaunch all UTF8 characters turned up as questionmarks, making the db unusable.

There was also a conflict with the DMI pluggin which caused Mail to hang.

I want to encourage Marketcircle to develop this application further, and make it a truly Mac app. Drop the DMI as an extra. Connect directly to Mail and iCal using the existing databases. If need be, drop Openbase. There is just so much potential in this app which is going unrealised.

DOUGEDDY  I too find Daylite appears to be what I want, but it is convoluted. I dislike the fact that you have to import iCal’s instead of having it work directly with iCa. It seems so smooth but I’ve found it rather confusing and complicated.

I agree, the cost is WAY out of line.

Improve the synch with iCal, get a much better manual to help understand the thing, and drop the price a lot and I think I’ll try it for good.

ROADTRIPDK  DayLite looks like what I want, but the interface is confusing, the Mail.app plug-in installer freezes, the license is quite expensive when compared with Chronos SOHO Suite and the company behind DayLite apparently thinks they can charge for some of their support for the product, although e-mail support seems to be free of charge.

Apparently, the Mail.app plug-in did install. After I got rid of all of the DayLite bits I could find, the Mail.app plug-in prompts me to start DayLite. Where does this plug-in reside, so I can trash it?
