ESPIRIDION  CleanApp has become my favorite uninstaller on the Mac. I still have AppZapper, Amnesia, and Tinker Tool System which has an uninstaller and a wealth of additional features.

If an application came with an installer, my first choice is to use the application's own uninstaller if/when available.

If an uninstaller is not available, in a couple of cases I've had to contact the developer of the application I want to uninstall, and then I follow a step-by-step removal process of the program in question.

For the most part, maybe 95% of the time, I can just use CleanApp.

For me one advantage is that I can view and select a wide variety of files that may be associated with the application I'm trying to uninstall. Other uninstallers are not as thorough. The disadvantage is that some people may delete files without any real need to do so. As is the case with uninstallers, use with caution.

An interesting feature is the "CleanCommunity" which allows users to view which files other users have deleted when uninstalling an application. The idea is a good one, but there's room for trouble since what the majority of people do is not always necessarily the right thing to do. It would be nice to improve this feature, perhaps by adding feedback when something goes wrong and then updating the information for users in the community.

CleanApp does provide some safety features, so users can restore the deleted files. Needless to say, it's a good idea to read the manual. In addition to uninstalling application, CleanApp does much more (e.g., log changes made by applications, check preferences panes, caches, older files, etc.)

GPATPANDP  I have been a staunch advocate of this application pretty much since its inception. It was always very reliable and did exactly what I had expected it to do. And furthermore it had been doing it well with the operative word being "had". This latest release (3.3.0) despite the claim by the developer that it run more efficiently I am afraid for myself at least is simply not true. Case in point, I attempted to remove an application that had run its course from three separate machines and within all the removals, CleanApp found different associated files upon which to trash. Luckily, I was able to dig up the actual uninstaller for this particular app otherwise it would have been quite the mess. Furthermore it seemed unlike ever before to bog down each operating system CleanApp had been an application that I readily updated and never looked back. Unfortunately in this case, I will be "looking back" to the previous release "3.2.3". Hopefully this finding is anomaly not to be repeated within future updates.

MARSMALLOW  Although the idea is good it is dangerous to use this utility.

I removed one of my apps and it deleted several files that did not relate. OK, I had to see this when asked but it makes my point of being dangerous to many OSX users who do not have the knowledge what to delete or not.

Not recommended in the end.

DOKTER_MAC  @DOOBIEXX: Same here. Search for Update results in 'No updates available'.

Maybe the reason for this is the issue that 'SIXBILLSHIPS' is reporting?

Anyway, I believe this will be solved soon. Just wait a few houres...

There will be an update. Otherwise the developer would not post it on MacUpdate including with the 'What's New' notes.

Greets.

DOOBIEXX  I don't know why this is posted here. I have no relation to the dev's but I own and use CA all the time. I have version 3.2.2 and when try to update via the app it says there are no updates available so I don't think 3.2.3 is really out quite yet. I would think the dev's would have the update available via the program's built in updating system before posting it here so I think this is just a bit premature of a submission and later on today we will see 3.2.3 actually come out. You are right though so do not worry.

KILLER KLOWN KAR  Can't recommend high enough. Very good app, lets you try out different things without worry about what is being installed and delete. Which sometimes is quite amazing. This along with Little Snitch are must haves!
