ANON42  Yup, 4.41 fixes the crash I was seeing in 4.4 :-)

Now it would be nice if there was an email address to directly contact the author for problems like the one that occurred in 4.4.

ANON42  I tried to use 4.4 to warn me with a sound after 6 keys but got no warning. Versions prior to 4.4 worked as advertised. This is either an actual bug due to some coding change, possibly because of some "quirk" with the 64-bit compilation, or that the minimum hardware requirements now exclude G3's which I happen to use (with 10.4.11).

KOSOVAR1  All parts of CAPS Warn Lock are working again. I no longer have to manually open the preference pane to turn it on after each restart. Don't ask me why it started working after all this time, but it just does. As a result, I can say that it is imminently useful. (It started working a few days before I installed version 4.3.)

KOSOVAR1  It's very simple: THe problem was always that the radio button, "ENABLE CAPS WARN" would always disable itself between restarts. With earlier versions, this happened on two different machines (MAcBook Pro and an iMac) that were running the Tiger and Leopard (OR maybe just the Leopppard OS). Since my first messge a few days Ago, found I could preview CAPS Warn for 30 days so I installed it. On day two--sure enough!--the newest version disabled itself again. My currennt config is early 2009 iMac 27" running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 with all components of the 64-bit OS enabled. Sorry, but I can't keep turning CAPS Warn on every time I restart my computer.

KOSOVAR1  I type slowly by needing to look at the keys and not the screen because of a handicapped right hands. I waste a lot of time typing in CAPS because I accidentally hit the caps lock key before I notice. NOw that Caps Warn is 64bit, I' considered buying it to use with my Snow Leopard OSrunning in full 64-bit mode. However, during the past two years that I used Caps Warn with Leopard (and maybe Tiger before that?), the audio warning component worked only sporadically for me. I was constantly adjusting and tinkering with the preference pane to make the audio warning component work again and then sometimes it still woudn't work, no matter what I did. For this reason, I won't risk wasting $6 if the audio part hasn't been fixed in the new version.

PHILMUR  CAPS Warn V.4.1 won't work. I put it on my MacBook Pro, OSX 10.5.8, 2.66GHz. When I click on the checkbox “Enable CAPS Warn...” the configuration window disappears then re-appears with the box unchecked. I check the box again, window disappears, re-appears with the box unchecked. Etc, etc. I sure would like to see this software work!

NICK COLLINGRIDGE  Great, and very handy, but a couple of points:

1. I assume that it still isn't complied as a 64-bit pref pane because if it was this would have been mentioned as a feature for 4.0. It would be good if this could be done so that it were not necessary to re-open preferences every time you go to the settings. I would happily pay for the new version if this were the case!

2. Would it be great to have an option to disable the caps lock altogether, which could maybe be implemented by immediately switching off the caps lock if it is activated, depending on what hooks there are available.

THUS.SPAKE.Z  Unfortunately, 'CAPS warn' works only very sporadically for me on my MacBook Pro w/OS 10.5.8.

I've got it configured to warn me via sound and flashing screen if caps lock is enabled but it alerts me only sometimes.

Also, the visual red 'CAPS warn' icons in the menu bar show only occasionally.

Too bad, 'cause this would be a very handy little app if it worked reliably.

I recall trying' CAPS warn' several years ago when it was free and experienced the same problems with it. I had it installed on a Powerbook then.

I've got no problem paying $6 for it if it did work reliably.

JIMW  I have one use for this product - make a sound if I accidentally push the Caps-Lock Key. As a free product it was an ideal solution for this. I also have a philosophy. I feel if a product cost less then $10 then it is not worth charging for at all. Less then $10 makes the cost a nuisance fee. I suspect that the developer did not charge $10 is because the developer either felt it was not worth $10 or that no one would buy it at $10. If this was the developers reasoning I totally agree with it.

That gets back to my first premise. If it is under $10 it should not be charged for at all, especially since it has been free for quite a long time and historically there was never any indication that it would metamorphose itself into shareware. This tactic strikes me as "bait and switch." I feel that if the developer wanted to start making money off these types of programs, it should of changed over to donation-ware or the developer should have left it free and came out with another product entirely that was fee based. As such, while I like the product, I don't feel it is a good value at $6. So I will continue to use the old version till it stops working or creates issues with my machine, and then learn to live without it - which really won't be that difficult.
