EDITOR NOTES
From the developer's website, October 12, 2007: iAlertU is now open source and the project is available on sourceforge.net. I am currently looking for someone or someones that might be interesting in taking over the project. I you are interested in working on iAlertU please let me know. You can use the "Contact Us" link on the webpage for iAlertU to send me an email.
DESCRIPTION

iAlertU is the first of its kind alarm system for your Apple MacBook computer. Basically iAlertU is a car alarm for your Mac.

iAlertU uses the built in sudden motion sensor (SMS) device to detect movement of your MacBook and triggers an audible and visual alarm. The alarm can also be triggered by keyboard and mouse/trackpad movement. The alarm is designed to continue sounding even after the MacBook screen has been closed.

iAlertU is activated and deactivated using the infrared remote control included with every MacBook computer. User adjustable settings let you decide which type of alarm triggers you would like to use, the duration of the alarm, and motion sensor sensitivity.

iAlertU also features functionality to utilize the built in iSight camera to photograph the would-be thief and soon will be able to email the photo to a user specified email address.

Check out the demo video here.

DANIEL VERLAQUE  Great idea.

The one problem is that the alarm shuts down seconds after starting...

ECLECTICSHADOW  I'm glad to say that iAlertU works perfectly on my Imac. Even though I'd love to see that maybe in this case the alarm would be activated if someone touches the screen not only the keyboard or the mouse. But other than it's perfect.

ARVIDTP  Cool! Just one thing that is a annoying for me - usually when I leave my macbook pro somewhere it is with an external audio interface connected, and often whatever speakers the interface goes to will not be turned on. So this app need a preference to for which audio device to use, it should not just use the default device, which is what it does now.

I guess if someone stole it then, they would have ot unplug the external audio device, but the audio might not re-engage in time to be useful...

THE_JUDGE_G4  From the Dev's site:

System requirements

Apple MacBook or MacBook Pro

OS X 10.4 or higher

Quicktime 7.1.3 or higher

Note iAlertU may work on other Apple Macs but this has not been tested.

Basically this works with any Mac with a motion sensor (portables). I've also installed this on an iMac CD and enabled iAlertU with the remote.
