EDITOR NOTES
BackityMac has been discontinued. The company is no longer in business (as of 9/16/09).
DESCRIPTION
BackityMac is a backup program that helps you simply the process of backing up your User folder. Examples of files that it backs up include:
  • Apple Mail Files
  • MS Entourage Files
  • iCal Calendars
  • Address Book database
  • Safari, Firefox, Camino bookmarks
  • iPhoto and iTunes Libraries
  • iWeb website files
  • Home Documents folder
  • Full home folder backup.
The backing up process writes the data to a read-only disk image. Then you can select this disk image within BackityMac and it functions as an auto-restore of your files. This is useful for users interested in cloning their home directory and replace it on another Mac untouched.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.5.2:
  • Minor tweaks for stability and performance
  • Price decreased to $5
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4.3 or later.

MACUPDATE ADMIN  From the developer's site today:

"Due to circumstances beyond our control, Whimsicaly Plucky Software has to close it’s doors. I’d ike to take this opportunity to thank al of the users of BackityMac, RadiioRocker, DochChanger and VideoVangeist for their patronage. There is a possibility we may open the doors again one day. Until then I’ve updated all the products to remove all registration requirements and they are all now FREE. Any versions previous to these listed will no longer activate. You may stil email me if you wish, however, no further support for the products will be offered.

Sincerely,

DJ MacIntosh

ROBERTCOOGAN  Super Duper does a much better job - for me (on a MBP & iMac) it keeps freezing up and crashing after two installs.

TOM ALLEN  I have a Mac Mini Intel and a MacBook. I downloaded and paid for the software. Originall it would not restore a previous backup. I reported it to the author and at first he was helpful. However when it did not get fixed, he quit responding to my emails. I downloaded the new version and it gets the applescript 1708 error.

SCOTT MCCOLLOM  I am running a new 24" iMac with Leopard installed.

I just downloaded the new release, but I am still getting the 1708 AppleScript error upon launching the program. I was reading that this release addressed that, but I guess it did not fix the problem.

Thanks.

JEFF H.  The developer seems to have worked everything out, and has a winner!

I wanted this app to work in these most recent versions because of the ease and efficiency of earlier versions. But it wasn't, at least not until this version!

Great job! Does what it says it'll do!

ME2  This software worked fine during the first few versions but now I can't get it to make a disk image.

I know we can't place a suffix of the version number on the end of the title and I don't, but, why is this continuing to 'not work.' The website shows no support folder. Any advice is appreciated.

IVANOVITCH  It stalls at backing up an image at 15.99GB... (and indicates 1% complete, on a 'second pass' of the update progress bar). Makes it useless for home directory backup to iPod disk ,for example (what I am trying to do - back to manual directory copy)
