DESCRIPTION
Create Booklet PDF Service adds an export command that converts documents into PDF format for printing as a booklet with staples down the middle. This means the pages have to be resorted before printing and two pages have to be shrunk onto one. Create Booklet does that for you and as it is a PDF Service you can do it directly from the print panel. Additionally you get the Automator Action that is used in that PDF Service.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.0.1: This is a very very minor update for Leopard users. All I did is change a setting of the PDF service that is included such that it now uses the same paper format for output then it got as input. This option was always available but is default now.

Just to remind. Create Booklet is a PDF service created with it‘s own Automator Action. This means you can change how the PDF Service works by clicking in the Print Panel on „PDF -> Edit Menu“.

REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4.4 or later.

NOMI  This sounds like a great app. But I can't get it to print a booklet from a PDF file. Is this app only supposed to be used for word processing files, not PDFs? (I usually want to print PDFs in booklet form.)

My settings in the print panel have been:

    • Printer: Epson CX3200

    • PDF menu: "Create Booklet"

. Subset: "Odd Pages Only"/"Even Pages

    (manual duplex)

    • "All" and "Collated" are activated.

When I hit print I get a dialogue box saying I can't save in print mode but have to go to the Save menu. When I continue, the printer starts to print full-size pages.

Also, the Preview box never appears prior to printing.

    Thanks for your help.

GUNTIS  I can't create and print out A4 PDF booklets from A5 pages from Pages 3.0.1. I open empty page, set page size to A5, type text, about 7-8 pages. Then press Print > PDF... > Create Booklet. A4 format PDF document is created and open in Preview application, 4 pages, on each page side there are two original A5 pages. To print booklet, I check that page is A4 format (it is), press Print from File menu, in Paper Handling options I set "Scale to fit paper size: Borderless A4". So it should print page to fit A4 page. Then I press Print button. But in the printout text is much smaller than A4, it is almost like A5! There is no way to get full page A4 format output. If I do the same steps from Mellel text editor, then PDF document which is created from Mellel's A5 document is printed on the whole A4 page. Somehow Pages generates PDF booklet with some wrong settings, which prevent correct printing on the whole page, even if "Scale to fit paper size: Borderless A4" option is checked. I have MacBook Pro 17" 2.33GHz, Mac OS X 10.4.11, HP deskjet 5850 inkjet printer with original Tiger's driver. I use Create Booklet PDF Service 1.0.1 to create PDF booklets. RORO01  This package installs "PDF Booklet" Automator action in HD/Library/Automator and "PDF create Booklet" workflow in HD/Library/PDF Services. However, if you have an older version it will not replace these items so you must trash them manually beforehand.

ESHIPMAN  After spending all day trying to figure out how to get a booklet printed on a half sheet, I found this plug in.

It works perfectly to make a booklet and I could finally print it on a half sheet of 8 1/2 X 11 paper.

Now if I could find a way to repeat the print at the bottom of the sheet without sending it through the printer again...

    Thanks!

YOXI  In my review below I said that there was a problem with the margins and clipping - but I've confirmed that this is NOT a problem with Christoph's app.

It's simply that if the initial document's left/right margins are very narrow, once they get rotated into a landscape booklet, the edges of the pagelets may be out of the top/bottom printable area for your printer, as they are (just) for my HP Officejet 1100.

You can easily get around this by reducing the %-age size in the Page Setup before printing.

YOXI  If you're looking for the pdf file, it's written in the /tmp folder, so if you want to keep it for later you'll have to move it or Save As in Preview.

Also, on my British English setup, the PDF Services item appears in the /Library/PDF Services folder as PDF Create Booklet, but appears in the actual menu in Dutch, for some reason.

And finally, something's up with the page margins - the right edge of each righthand page is clipped. I don't know if this is because the service isn't respecting the A4 paper size, or what.

A good and useful service, though, once these things get ironed out.
