STEVEHHH  Basically very nice, but it continually hangs up. I suspect an update for Leopard is needed. I hope to see one soon !!!

PENNYHEAD1  Nice app. Developer responsive, highly customizable and uses little memory. I really like the idea of managing the trash anywhere on my desktop. Thanks!

SYNTIQ  Some time ago I started to use a dualscreen Setup with my Powerbook and an external 17" CRT. Mainsceen on the left, Second screen on the right. Soon after this setup, one thing bothers me: Every time I want to drag something on the second screen into the Trash, I have to go all the way to the Main-Screen and there to the bottom-right corner where the trashcan was.

Then I found Bin-It and was happy. Finally I can put a second Trashcan on the second Screen that behaves almost exactly as the Finders Trash

If I drag Files onto Bin-It, it puts them into the Finders trash. If I click on it, It opens the Finders Trash. It is just like an extension to the original Trashcan.

To speak of it: It can even look like the original Trashcan. Actually you can choose from 9 different looks for the bin. You can even set the size and Transparency of it. (It would be nice if the user could make its own themes for it. Maybe in future Versions?)

Another nice Eyecandy is the "Trash Level" Bin-It can show you not only "Trash Empty" and "Trash Full" like the Finder does, It changes its Icon also on "25% Full" and "75% Full" so you have an overview how many MB your Trash is suckung up on your Hard drive.

There is a setting for this too. You can deactivate the Trash-Level if you want (So it just shows empty and full) or you can activate it and even can set the size treshold for the "Full Trash" Icon between 10MB and 100MB. (Yes 100MB max. so, if you work heavily with videos, music or other large files, you will almost never see the 25% or 75% Status Icons)

Another Plus: It runs on Panther and I have never seen it crash!

But, yes, there is a dark side on it:

It seems to suck up 25MB of the systems memory. 25MB just for a Trashcan? Seems strange to me. Yes, I know, the amount of equipped memory in every Computer increaes, but what if you´re using an older Mac with less equipped memory?

Anyway. I really like Bin-It. Its one of my "Start on Login" Apps and REALLY makes using my Powerbook more comfortable for me.

SYNTIQ  I have to appologize. I said Bin-It uses around 25MB of Memory. Today I found out that the Application Enhancer was the Culprit for this. Without APE installed Bin-It (V.1.2.4) only uses 10MB of System-Memory!

BRUCE_Y  Ahh, then your comment and research would be great if you would forward that to the APE Unsanity developers.

I mention this because i have a few APE dependent modules and because of your research, will now try to keep an eye on memory use which may also be APE related.

JEDIK  Just needs to open the real Trash folder when double-clicked, and also works with other drives/folders than the System drive.

I also think thaty 20MB of Real Memory is a bit too much for what it does...

Does it work for ejecting volumes also (I didn't try...)?

Other styles (the regular Mac OS X metalic and other ones) would be great. ;)

SHIELADIXON  Thanks for your comments, Jedik. Yes, I do seem to have a memory leak, though for me it seems to start at a couple of meg and creep upwards. I haven't seen it at 20meg yet though, but I will experiment on different systems (and fix the problem of course!). MacUpdate have edited my original description in which I explained that the first 'real' version (when I'm confident enough to move it outof beta) will offer at least 3 styles of bin - 2 pre OSX and the OSX basket. You'll see that the prefs window has a gap where the selector will be. I agree that the 'eject drive' feature will be great and is on my 'to do' list too!

    Thanks again. Shiela
