DESCRIPTION

LoadMyTracks is a utility that allows users of the Macintosh to download track, route, and waypoint information from a variety of GPS receivers from Garmin, GlobalSat, Magellan, TomTom, Sony, Lowrance, Timex, and turn them into GPX files or KML files (for use with Google Earth).

LoadMyTracks can also send Tracks, Waypoints, and Routes to your Garmin and Magellan GPS devices (support for other manufacturers will be forthcoming)! It will also translate GPX files to KML and convert some existing saved files from certain (Lowrance and Magellan) GPS receivers. Using extensions to GPX 1.1, it will also place cadence, heart rate, and lap information into the GPX files.

LoadMyTracks will also import and export Geocaching information from supported devices and file formats (including LOC for import and GPX for import and export).

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.4b7:
  • We have added support for the US GlobalSat GH-625 series of monitors. If you have a GH-625 or an older GH-615, please test with this version and report any bugs. We don't have these devices in-house, so we need your assistance.
  • Fix minor bug in interpreting 1.1 gpx
  • Fix condition where hitting Cancel in the upload or download process for a Garmin receiver might cause an abort due to CFRunLoop being stopped when it isn't set
  • Fix track name padding error which could cause memory overwrite and crash when uploading to some Garmin devices
  • Preliminary fixes to TCX import—importing TCX files that contain courses should allow the tracks to be correctly read and uploaded, instead of giving an error message about Laps being located outside of an Activity.
  • Fix for Google Earth no longer ignoring the Creator field in KML headers
  • Add support for GH625
  • Fix bug in NMEA/Sony code that could cause a crash under certain error conditions
  • Fix for crasher in KML export with certain older Garmin devices that send 301's without open track info
  • Add telemetry support
  • Clean up automated tests
  • Fix bug in GH6165 Time handling
  • Fix bug releasing nonexistent list from list of applications
  • Move to 10.5 only, fix more warnings.
  • Switch to XIB files
  • Change sparkle to use more modern calls for strings
  • NMEA Fixes
  • Sparkle 1.5 update
  • Update to latest Growl
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

DORKYPANTS  Indeed the release notes at cluetrust.com say that ver. 1.4 drops support for Tiger (10.4) and adds 64-bit support (for Snow Leopard, 10.6).

MISHA  Thanks for catching this -- I have adjusted the listing. System requirements seldom change for apps, and developers do not always notify us (nor do we always notice ourselves).

DORKYPANTS  Sysadmins, the release notes say "Move to 10.5 only". Shouldn't the system requirements be changed from "10.4"? I tried to follow the link to the developer's site "Clue Trust" to verify for myself, but that link yields a blank macupdate page.

DORKYPANTS  The .bz2 archive for version 042 unpacks into a .dmg which doesn't mount on my Tiger (10.4.8) MacBook

XTAL  Excellent application, flawless Google Earth import, USB communication works like a charm - it could use a nicer icon and some extra features though (I'd like to be able to determine *which* routes/waypoints/tracks I'd like to download).

Tested with a BMW Motorrad Navigator II (manufactured by Garmin, basically it's a modified StreetPilot 2610) and Google Earth 4.0.

Keep up the good work, and please don't make the end product expensive when it's ready, I'd like to buy it!

BRETTD  Works with brand new Garmin GPS units (namely the Cx/CSx units) which none of the other programs seem able to do without making me buy a serial cable and a serial->USB adapter(Is this 2006 or 1995?), so bravo on that point. Downloaded 4 routes and about two dozen waypoints very quickly.

However- you have zero control over what is uploaded, and for that resaon, a "1" on features. I can understand downloading all the waypoints, but really, why can't we get an option to only download certain routes?

2/5 for ease of use; it'd be nice to see any detected USB devices listed, and one of the routes did not show up in Google Earth or Trailrunner unless others were deleted, which I had to do by hand in a text editor (ugh.)

3/5 on value+stability; seemed stable the two times I used it, and I can't judge value since there is no price point announced.

MATTHEW AVERILL  Excellent, I've spent the whole day trying to muddle through the world of Garmin, just to download and display waypoints from my gps onto my mac. Now, I can even add it to google earth.

Doesn't necessarily resolve all the issues, but is a nice simple quick tool.

Thanks

BARRIKADY  Very nice! This is the first piece of software I have found that recognizes my Garmin GPS 60Cx's USB port.

I do have a suggestion/request:

When I save the tracks as a KML file and open GoogleEarth, the track is white, which makes the track almost invisible. I looked at both LoadMyTracks and GoogleEarth for a preference to change the color of the track, but was not able to select a different color. Am I missing something?

Once again, very nice!

BARRIKADY  UPDATE:

I contacted the developer and he replied:

"There's no preference (yet) for display attributes in LoadMyTracks.

However, in google earth, if you right click on the track in the Places pane and then select Edit... and then select Advanced, you can adjust the visual properties including width, color, and opacity.

It's on the list, though, for customization features for the export."

Worked like a charm!

MAIQUE  i've tried severall other programs, usually for more complex tasks. they also have the ability to download the data this one does.

but this is a very nice, easy to use, straight forward app and i love it. i use it almost daily to download my tracks and see what i've been doing on google earth.

if i go geocaching and just want to get that data out of the unit, this is the one i use.

and i just found out it auto-updates, another cool feature.
