SurplusMeter is open-source, and is released under the GNU General Public Licence.

JKT  Excellent to see that this is now a UB. However, the Archive is not showing GB to me as it suggests it should in the notes above, only bytes and MB.

The one criticism I would have of this app is that it only runs in one user account at a time as far as I am aware, so if another person logs in on the same machine it doesn't track their usage in addition to your own (please correct me if this is wrong). If it did, it would be perfect. In other words, if there was some means of not only getting the value for how much each individual user has used, but also the total of all users' usage, it would be 5 stars instead of 4.

WEASELBOY  Thanks for the universal binary update.

This is a great app that monitors Internet usage using a small user.agent program. The full program only needs to be run if you want to view the stats collected by the user.agent.

ISILVER  Great stuff, thanks to the developer for this great piece of software.

Thanks to my ISPs convoluted charging system, I'd like to be able to monitor my bandwidth which is split into two streams, "Day" gives me 10GB download between midday and midnight and "Night" gives me 10GB from Midnight to Midday. When Night allocation is drained it reduces from the Day allocation.

MWHITE111  At the start of this month I started to wonder if my ISP was properly recording my bandwith usage. I did a search for a program to log my internet activity and found SurplusMeter. I have used it for a week or so now and have been very happy up until today. (I found out that my ISP and my internet acitivty was in sync I had just calculated some things wrong.)

Today I went to my ISP to check out my bandwith and noticed a rather large discrepency between my ISP and SurplusMeter (more than 3GB difference). I brought up SurplusMeter and noticed that the "bytes up/down" figures weren't moving even though I was actively downloading/uploading several files. It was like SurplusMeter had just stopped. I wasn't sure what to do, so I paused it and then restarted it--SurplusMeter than began to register my uploads/downloads. Anyone else have this problem?

    I'm on a G4 running 10.3.9

    Thanks.

IAN R. BROWN  Recently I moved to a Broadband account with a 3GB download limit and was recommended, by a friend, to try SurplusMeter.

It exceeded all my expectations, being simplicity itself to use and providing every bit of information anyone could conceivably want on daily or monthly uploads and downloads.

The use of both numerical and graphed information is very useful.

It is an excellent little application which I have recommended to my supplier, NTL, as they did not know of anything suitable for Apple computers.

SANJINKO  To the poster with one star:

read the documents within disk image

The application works great on my Panther (10.3.9) system.

Drag the app's icon onto Desktop AND in the Dock. Launch it.

Note: the app cannot be terminated with Quit command, but only via Force Quit command in Activity Monitor utility (in Applications/Utilities under My Processes)

AKROBAT  Well I'm glad that Modix below found the app 'great'. It froze on my computer. Worse still there's no way to quit the program (no menu, nothing). Tried to force quit but it doesn't even show up! Had to restart my machine 'cause I got nothing but the spinning wheel of death and NetTracker that wont quit or go away.

Suffice to say it is now deleted from my system
