DESCRIPTION
Skyrocket is a screensaver that renders firework displays in 3D. Screensavers have come a long way since Pyro!, and this one renders fireworks in 3D with sound effects. Available in English and French.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.3:
  • Ported the mouse controls from the Windows version to the Mac version.
  • Skyrocket is now built with the FreeALUT library, since Apple has deprecated ALUT in Mac OS X's implementation of OpenAL.
  • The new minimum OS version is 10.4.
  • Finally, the PowerPC version of Skyrocket no longer plays sound effects unless Mac OS X 10.5 or later is installed. I'm sorry I had to make this change, but it solves the PPC sound problems once and for all, and it reduces the screen saver's disk space.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later. Mac OS X 10.5 or later is required for sound effects on PowerPC Macs.

WJB3WVU  Great job! And as a commercial pilot, I can tell you that your simulation is very good - especially the sky and ground. I don't think I've ever seen those fireworks get quite that much altitude in real life though! Not while flying a commercial jet, at least!

BRENNANMEISTER  Concerning JWBRENT's issue. Amoung other hardware systems I, also, run an iBook G4 and have found that

this saver operates perfectly - sound included. Like him I'm running Tiger 4.7, but at 1.42GHz. I shouldn't imagine that such a tiny difference between our operating speeds should provide any impact on the saver's performance whatsoever. That aside, this must be one of the best (free) savers going!

IAMDORIAN  Great job! My hat's off to the developer for posting this fine screensaver for free. I'll try to send something.

There have been some truly solid screen savers of late, including this app, Timelapse and Soundstream. Good ideas and well implemented.

If only Gaslamp would be wrewritten for Intel machines now, and as a screensaver?

JWBRENT  Newest version (1.2.1) works great on my iBook G4 1.33ghz running 10.4.7 but when I enable the sound, it crashes.

SYZZYGY  Well, Skyrocket IS quite nice. I find it really esthetically pleasing to watch.....and it doesn't get tiresome. There's a pretty wide range of settings, allowing for some interesting rendering.

To the developer....well done!! I even think that this screen saver is worth charging a few shekels for, maybe $5-$8. I'd buy it.

AGLEE  Beautiful! And timely -- I was *just* going to look for a screen saver to replace Words, which doesn't run on Intel. We've come a long way since Pyro!

NERFGUN  Absolutely spectacular. Make sure you turn on smoke, the glows off the spark trails are really incredible.

The only fly in the ointment is the fairly lo-res landscape texture as mentioned by others (although I love that you can make out a little blurry soccer field in there). A good bump-mapped terrain texture would make this illusion perfect.
