DESCRIPTION

Zimbra Collaboration Suite is open source server and client technology for next-generation enterprise messaging and collaboration (email, group calendar, contacts, etc).

End-user benefits include:

  • Browser based AJAX client with search, shared calendar and mail that is integrated with contacts and calendar.
  • Support for Outlook, iCal, App.Mail, contacts and offline mode.
  • Support of Apple, Windows, and Linux operating systems.
Administrator Benefits:
  • Online move, back-up, and recovery of individual or a group of mailboxes.
  • Compatibility with existing LDAP directories.
  • Native hierarchical storage management and clustering.
  • Web services integration with existing enterprise applications.
  • Integrated anti-spam and anti-virus.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 5.0.5:
  • X-Mailer is now added to Zimbra emails by default and can be disabled by setting zimbraSmtpSendAddMailer to FALSE in global config. (Bug 6237)
  • HTTP proxy is supported. This includes REST sharing, Caldav, and Zimbra mobile. For Zimbra Mobile, ZCS redirect/forwards to the correct host. (Bug 9469)
  • For new installations, an additional Common Menu item has been added. Require secure interprocess communications. By default this is set to Yes. This means that ZCS will use startTLS with the LDAP server with Amavis and Postfix. If this is set to No, ZCS disables the use of startTLS with the LDAP server. ZCS install checks to see if startTLS works with the LDAP server. If it does not, a warning is logged to the setup log file and this setting is set to No. If you want to manually disable the use of startTLS for Postfix and Amavis when talking to the LDAP server, set the ldap_starttls_supported localconfig value to 0. Then run zmmtainit to update the postfix configuration files, and zmmtaconfig amavis

Zimbra Collaboration Suite User Reviews (11 posts)Write A Review

KRIS BROWNE  The ownership by Yahoo doesn't trouble me as much as what will happen if(when is more likely) microsoft buys Yahoo. As someone else said, Zimbra really offers a well designed Exchange competitor stack, and I can't see MS letting that stand.  (Version 5.0.2)

MAXIMXYGO  Absolutely no changes whatsoever, besides renaming a Zimblet from "yahoo maps" to "yahoo local." Yahoo plans to (and by all appearances does) operate Zimbra as a separate entity, most likely injecting ZCS components into their online webmail offerings. I know it freaks some people out that Yahoo owns it now (why I don't know... yahoo's turned out to be a pretty respectable company these days), but I (nor other zimbra employees) can see any benefit from Yahoo changing anything about it, nor from killing it outright. It's a truly unique Exchange competitor, and makes its owners decent money... they only benefit from serving their existing target audience better.  (Version 5.0)

MAXIMXYGO  Quite simply the best collaboration suite I've ever set up, administered, and used as an end user. The openness of Zimbra really makes it shine beyond the already *amazing* set of built-in functionality. It works wonderfully with iCal (subscribe/publish), WebDAV for "briefcase," plus a TON of other killer features, including an iPhone-optimized interface for mobile devices.

It not only acts as a very cost-effective "replacement" for Outlook, it bests it in every way. I have users using the native AJAX interface, users attached via IMAP using Outlook, Thunderbird, and Apple Mail and MobilMail (iPhone), even a few using the chat functions via Jabber in iChat. It all just works, and works *wonderfully.*

Top notch software. The Open Source version is great and FREE (that's what we use), and the Network (paid) edition is stellar, and very inexpensive.  (Version 5.0)
