FIREMIN  I use Calico as my standard pano creator. It has generally produced better results than some of apps supplied with specific cameras. It hasn't always worked for me but that is probably more to do with my poor photography, not lining up multiple shots correctly : )

Unlike some, i wasn't happy with EITHER the interface, or the results.

The UI is far too hands-off. It's basically load the images, let'er rip, and hope something worthwhile pops out.

What does can be okay, or a disaster.

Many prefs feel like they should be controls, instead.

DGOMBAU  As an exhibiting photographic artist, and podcaster on consumer digital photography, I was looking for something that would address both needs. This software does that.

It is so simple in its interface, it almost feels like it is "too easy" to give the sophisticated results it does. Yet it does give stunning results. Even with a less than perfectly taken series it finds and matches all the points, as well as adjusting exposure - including that problematic sky exposure matching and blending.

Excellent value for the price - pays for itself in a couple of painless panos. I could get addicted to this.

GEE4ORCE  First impressions were not great - the interface is very modal, I wasn't able to drag and drop images out of iPhoto (you have to use the Load command, which is not even in the File menu), the preview loupe is just a blurred enlargement, you can't manually arrange the images - you're just left at the mercy of the automatic alignment.

But...

The results are astounding ! I threw some of my most difficult panorama source images at it and it produced output that's better than I currently have (made with the excellent DoubleTake). You don't need to manually adjust anything, it just works. It takes quite a long time to work it's magic, but I suppose that's because it's doing quite in-depth analysis.

It's a bit unstable (still beta though), and the interface is not Mac like enough - but I would still consider buying this because the results are so good.

OZZPOT  I am a professional Photoshop artist and graphic designer, who just recently got into digital photography after buying a 7.1mp camera to take on vacation with me.

I took many picturesque panoramas using the camera's 'stitch assist' function, but found it hard and time-consuming to stitch them together in photoshop. It took skill and knowledge to acheive the results I did, and decided to check out alternatives.

I found Calico, but wasn't very confident that it could do a good job with such little input from the user. I was wrong. It faultlessly stitched together a 17-shot 360° panorama on the first try. Now I must purchase it t get rid of the watermarks!

This will save me so much time and effort. Awesome software!

TONYGOULDING  As a beginner just starting with panoramic images, quick successes mean everything in terms of keeping momentum and not losing interest.

After researching the many panorama creation workflows, tools, and applications available, I was about to lose that momentum...then I came across a reference to Calico on the Panoguide forums.

I downloaded the demo, hit LOAD to import 10 images, hit ALIGN, and within a couple of minutes had a stiched panorama. Hitting MAKE and a few minutes later I had a QTVR image I could navigate.

Very impressive. Of course, I might evolve to something more 'pro' at a later stage, but the key point (esp for the beginner) is the simplicity and the excellent results. This has boosted my interest and helped me maintain momentum...I'm on a roll now.
