CAROLP  PocketMac is crappy, crappy software. I would recommend that you find something, anything else. I have spent two days trying to recover my 500+ Contacts and extensive Calendar entries destroyed by this product. In my case, I was moving from an old Blackberry to a Palm Centro. Instead of asking me about conflicts between my Mac iCalendar and Address Book and the data on the Blackberry, PocketMac silently "resolved" the conflicts by dropping addresses and phone numbers on both the Mac and the Blackberry. In porting from the Blackberry calendar to iCalendar, PocketMac combined years (!) so that I had appointments from 2007 mixed in with appointments for this month.

I did find out a useful thing: if you have tons of Contacts, more than can fit on a SIM card (like me), you can go to an AT&T store and they will use some machine to port your Contacts directly from the Blackberry to the Palm, without having to first get everything onto your Mac in some format and then using PalmDesktop HotSync to get it onto your Palm.

Good luck, you'll need it.

DAVID Y  I agree with most of the comments. This is the single worst application for the Mac that I have installed. I'm constantly losing contacts, appts. etc. For some strange reason, it will reboot my BB. If I knew of another piece of software, I'd be happy to pay for it. Free is not always better.

NORMAN CLARK  I have an Intel MacBook running OSX 10.5 and a BlackBerry Curve. PocketMac simply does not work reliably. It will sometimes do a reasonable job of synching the calendars, but it hopeless with contacts (which is what one really needs to synch!) The app hangs or crashes four out of every five times. Constant data purges, resetting to first synch state, and cleaning of sync files do not solve the problems.

The support functions at both the RIM site and PocketMac are too basic to be very helpful with this.

Until someone else develops a product that works, my advice is that if you have a Mac, don't buy a BlackBerry. They do not work well together.

DANKONLEE21  NEWSFLASH: YET ANOTHER MAC PRODUCT THAT ABSOLUTELY SUCKS.

Seriously, using a Mac for the last year has turned me into the most negative person on the face of this planet. Honest to God, I havent found anything that A) Works B) Looks good and C) fully functions without boatloads of random ass modifications, hacks and codes.

This program doesnt work. It doesnt successfully sync ANYTHING with your Blackberry. As usual, I assumed that it was a user error on my behalf as I always do before I pass judgement yet after a month of tutorials, online directions and web assistance both I and the technician's came to the conclusion:

Dang, this software doesn't work at all.

Good day Mac, and thanks for wasting my time.

WILPON  Why are blaming Apple? You should be blaming the developers of this program, and any other program that doesn't work for you.

JAMESKITTY  Seriously, it's not really fair to judge the platform based on PocketMac, which is one of the worst pieces of software available for it.

But it does make me wonder tho, obviously you know about this site, how could you have missed all the horrible, damning reviews of this program?

NLS  PocketMac is terrible. It continues to Crash and the developers cannot figure out what the problem is. Have been in contact with PocketMac with my issues yet my problem is still not resolved. All they do is blame Macintosh. I am able to sync ICal individually but when uploading my address book the system crashes. I have deleted the PocketMac cache, deleted the entire program and re downloaded it and still have the same issues. If anyone knows how to fix theses problems please let me know.

****.

FONIK  Terrible GUI and tends to crash or eat up ridiculous amounts of system resources. However, it DOES sync my BlackBerry and it IS free. It may not have the zen-level of interface that some people have grown to expect from Mac software, but at least it does its job. Also, being free earns an extra star in my opinion.

GPSTEIN1  I am trying to use this with a Blackberry Curve, its doesn't sync with Now Contact/Up to Date. Its also slow with Apple address book, and when using the "advanced options" button, is very slow.

Not a good product at all. But its free with the Blackberry.

Have used Missing Sync with my Palm Treo 650, that works great.

Blackberry needs to commit to the Mac with more R & D.

BREAK42  I really don't know what everyone is talking about. On the pearl the memory card wont mount under leopard, Missing sync is useless if the memory card wont mount anyways. Works fine for me, and I can use my card reader to load music or unload pics. Stable for what it does, and more stable then the windows version for me.

Application utilities, address book and ical, works wonderful. Thanks RIM for looking out for your hommies

AERGERN  Yep. That's what I do. I use Apple apps with my BB because the only thing Entourage brings to the table is Exchange support and bloat. :D

Why Microsoft removed plugin support in Office 08 is a friggin mystery.

Most likely PocketMac and the others are going to write iSync plugins to interface with Blackberry's.

Who knows.

IGAUCHO  I installed this so that my wife could use it with her new Blackberry Pearl. It's horrible. I could not get it to work on her account. Apparently it will only work on the main user's account of the machine it's installed on. I tried changing her account to administrator and it would not see the Pearl. Even the "check for update" feature does not work properly. It takes you to RIM's website but does not tell you even that you have the latest version. This software's not even worth free. Time to get Missing Sync! I use that for my Palm and it works great.
