Symmetrical Designer is a very simple application based on MacPaint's brush mirrors. It is great fun to play with, but its practical uses are limited.

BOB G Since upgrading my mother to OS X and loosing the use of one of her favorite programs, I have been looking for a program that did Brush Mirrors.

Symmetrical Designer is a nice program as far as it goes. But some not so sophisticated users may want to take their creation and embelish it. A way to do this is not obvious.

Try this: 1. Make the design. 2. Set the Page Setup to 75%. 3. Print it to a PDF. 4 Open the PDF in Preview. 5. Do a Save As to BMP or other format by choosing the Pop Up in the Save As dialog box. 6 Launch a paint program, Apple Works, Canvas, Photo Shop, whatever. and open the document using the Open command. 7. Add color using the fill tool, edit superfulous lines etc.

My mother has created some eye catching designs. Hope this helps others think out of the box this budding developer has created while working toward furture enhancements. Good Start!

FERRUCCIO BUSONI There is an Export to TIFF feature included that works a lot better than Print. It offers custom size / resolution and eliminates three of your steps.

FERRUCCIO BUSONI Also, the program does not really draw onto a bitmap. It saves your every move to enable a smoother sort of scaling / stretching. In order to have tools like color fill, this idea would either have to go or I would need to include a separate image editor.

Unfortunately, more updates to this program aren't likely, since I only wrote it to fulfill my desire to see brush mirrors again. The next thing I would try to add would probably be transparency in the export to make working in an image editor easier.

I'm glad people are having fun with this! But I suppose some sort of plugin for a real program would be better.

BOB G My apologies for posibly being a very dense person. But I have gone through all the menus dialog boxes of the version I downlaoded and I can't find any way to export to TIFF. For that matter I have loaded on three different computers and the About dialog, preferences are grayed and unavailable. As a matter of fact the application menu is called Mirror. The file menu consists of New, Open, Open Recent, Close Save, Save As, Page Setup and Print.. So I assumed that the program was in developement.

I am not sure what has happened and I didn't mean to post something that was innaccurate. But I just checked my copy again. Please advise me what I should do next. Thank you.

I have a copy of version labeled Symmetrical Designer 1.0b.

FERRUCCIO BUSONI You have an older version. I just checked the one one MacUpdate's servers � the "Download Now" version � and it's current. So download it again and you should have "Export as TIFF�" in the File menu, as well as an application menu that says "Symmetrical Designer."

MIKURO Neat and fun. Great for kids. My only gripe with it is that it has no special tools. A straight line tool would be nice, as would basic shapes and curves. But it's just a novelty anyway, so it doesn't really matter. It's cool.
