DESCRIPTION

Auction Hunter is a native Cocoa application for OS X, built to make your life easier on eBay. It allows you to monitor auctions that you are interested in bidding on, or that you would like to simply observe and store for future reference.

Main features of Auction Hunter are:

  • Automatic bidding and sniping tools, that let you set your snipe amount for an item you like, so that Auction Hunter will place the bid with eBay until just a few seconds before the auction ends. This allows you to not attract attention to the auction, causing price to go up. You can also easily cancel or change the snipe when you like, before the auction ends, not risk anything.
  • Searching tools, that automatically let you to save and run the same searches on eBay, storing the results in user defined folders. You can also specify a time interval to be used to periodically run the searches. If new items are found, Auction Hunter will change the folder color, so you immediately know there is something new. New added items are also highlighted in yellow!
  • Thanks to a built-in powerful database, Auction Hunter allows you to store thousands of auction listings (with thumbnails too!) so you can search through all saved items and what they sold for, even for past auctions no longer available on eBay. If you like, you can also save the full content ofÊ the item’s web page, and open it later with Safari for future references.
  • Auction Hunter periodically updates the information about the auctions you are interested in, and let you know at first sight what is going on, due to the use of colors and bold typeface. For example, a red line says that the auction received no bids or that reserve price is not met, while a black line means that the auction will sell, but not to you. A green line says that you are the high bidder. A line in bold face font, instead, means that you placed a bid on that item. Colors and bold typeface are combined to provide all possible auction status.
  • Auction Hunter provides support for all international eBay sites, and also automatically updates all the categories when you launch the application.
  • If you have more than one eBay user IDs, for example one for your hobby and one for work, you can use them at the same time!

WEB-JIVE  Nice looking product. No ability to search ebay motors that I can see. That is a must IMHO.  (Version 0.9.9.13)

NOTNAP   I am new to the market for this kind of software, but I tried jbidwatch for a week before deciding to look anew, when I found this piece of software.

Yes, I've had one minor problem Auction Hunter so far - non-fatal, no crash, easy to work around. I submitted a report, got back an answer within two hours with a link to a still private beta release that fixed the problem.

Later, I sent a suggestion for a minor feature change, and again got a response thanking me for the input within hours.

Lo and behold, the feature change and the bug fix are already integrated into 0.9.9.9, less than one week later.

The interface, while still being developed, blows jbid away. It's graphical, intuitive, easy to organize, feature rich. jbid, while certainly more refined from a programing perspective, is visually ugly, and looks very much like the java app it is.

I'd like to see a more user friendly way to list items in the "default folders," allowing the user to cross reference to the items already stored in user created folders. But I can see from one of the other 0.9.9.9 fixes that development is already going in that direction.

But then again, there are menu choices and buttons in jbid which are just as, if not more un-intuitive. Hell, you have to scroll accross using a cryptic button to even discover you are not even seeing all of the tabs in the option screen.

Don't get me wrong - I could tell jbid is powerful, and deserves it's loyal following. But from a quick, two week tour of the two, I saw little in jbid that wasn't in AH, and better presented at that. I'll take AH's beta glitches over jbid's butt ugly interface - at least I can tell the glitches will go away.

NOCKAMURA's comment seemed to imply Auction Hunter is not being updated... I found quite the contrary, as my explanation above showed. While I do not doubt graphxdave's experience, I'm guess ing he was on the unlucky end of a bad mix of beta software and otherwise innocuous conditions. My advice to all - beta is beta: if you want to use it, and have a problem, contact the vendor before telling the rest of the world. I've found the support - as well as the comments here - to be quite the opposite of smarmy. But that's just me, YMMV.

By the time the full feature is released, and assuming the underlying database is as robust and as stable as the developer says it is in the literature, I do not have any doubt it will be worth the nominal fee.  (Version 0.9.9.9)

HAGI  Best App to monitor eBay-Auctions. Here are some awesome features (ALL not included in JBidWatcher):

    - complex search-form(s). You can save search-queries and search in former results.

    - export your found items as Safari-Webarchive of the original eBay-page to get all information.

    - manage items with folder-hierarchie (instead of flat-tabs)

    - search only ended auctions to get an overview of street-price

    - multilanguage-support

    - password-protection

I can't tell much about stability or if the sniping-feature works, cause i've downloaded it a few hours ago. But you can collect information with a great ease of use, without getting garbage.

O.K.; a great plus of JBidWatcher is the price ....  (Version 0.9.9.7)
