DESCRIPTION
GimmeSomeTune is an application that extends iTunes' functionality.
With GimmeSomeTune, you can download lyrics and album covers without the user having to do anything - so that he can do things the computer can't do for him. Last.fm and remote control support are available for you at your fingertips.
Furthermore, it shows you iTunes' currently playing song in a beautiful floating window, which you can hide with the push of a button, and it can as easily be brought back to the foreground.
GimmeSomeTune offers the user a lyrics-window, which shows you the lyrics of the currently playing song. In this window, you can also edit the lyrics on the fly, and, if GimmeSomeTune can't find any lyrics, look for them on Google.
Of course, GimmeSomeTune features a vast number of hotkeys to control iTunes (and parts of GimmeSomeTune itself) out of any application. Alternatively, or as a complement, there is a mini-controller that lets you control iTunes with the mouse.
To please every individual user, GimmeSomeTune has functionality to change it's appearance. The user can, amongst other things, modify the infowindow and the status menu. Even the information GimmeSomeTune shows you is changeable.
Other features of GimmeSomeTune are support for iChat, a "Recently Played" menu and a daemon, which starts and quits GimmeSomeTune whenever iTunes starts or quits.

MACNERD1984 Nice idea, but when it can't find lyrics for any tracks from something as easy as the Them Crooked Vultures album, then something's clearly wrong. No idea where it is going to fetch them, but it's pretty patchy. Tried it on some other well know, classic albums and it failed to find them too. Nice idea and not bad execution but let down by the fact that the one thing I needed it for (lyrics) seem to stump it.

AARGL Well, same result for me! (tiger version) Nice interface but still obstinately shows "No Lyrics" for any "unknown" artists such as Massive Attack, Fiona Apple or Travis... ;-D (tried 30 of them)

PABLITO I am having the same problems. The application is amazing, but since iTunes is 8, I am having problems to close GST after iTunes. Also the windows sometimes is shown, sometimes not.

BRIAN.TULLY GimmeSomeTune 4.2 and iTunes 8.02 do not work well together. When you try to quit iTunes, GimmeSomeTune will hang along with its background daemon which requires you to force quit them from Activity Monitor.

SOULSLAVE itunes wont close with gimmesometune. it closes and comes back again while the gimmesometune icon stays idle. great app just have this problem now

HUBBIN It never gets artwork/lyrics for the current song even though I have them checked. It also removes artwork that's already there. Too bad, it sounded really promising.

MSODREW Excellently made and concise app. Preference menu has everything you need and nothing you don't. Highly customizable... not any skins as, say, Growl would offer but the value in simplicity defeats this shortcoming. Automatically can fetch artwork and lyrics and attach them to the song file. Also is very "work friendly" in the sense that it will never get in the way of your tasks at hand. Can be setup to start automatically when iTunes is launched. And remember kids, this app is free as in beer... I'm impressed. 5 Stars!

is it possible to use in batch mode GimmeSomeTune to get song lyrics and artwork without playing every song manually? I would like to it for all songs at once overnight. Thanks.

FRANKVH I used to be very happy with GimmeSomeTune, but nowadays it will pick up thge lyrics without returns..... My lyrics blocks are now fille with a continuous line of text. Verry annoying! Any solutions or people who have the same problem?

The guys from lyricwiki.org, one of the sites GimmeSomeTune uses to retrieve lyrics, have upgraded their server software, hence the lyrics problems. However, they know about it and are working on it! Hope this clarifies the issues. I hope they can fix it soon!
