NORRIS  I found Sandvox to be simple to use and productive of good results, judging from the many favourable comments I've received from visitors to my new site. Its limitations are not visible in the finished product, which looks thoroughly professional. However, users who want more control over things like image size and placement may find the necessity to conform to a limited template frustrating. For those of us who simply want a quick and clean introduction to website design, I'd say that it's about as good as it could be.

KALLI MATSUHASHI  I've built 3 websites now using Sandvox, and it's been easy to do. The designs available are great; for my first site I used on of the free templates that come with the software, and purchased templates for the other 2. Have been very impressed with ease of use as well as technical support. I had trouble initially getting the site published (my first site), and tech support responded very quickly, even cheerfully in helping me figure things out. Worth every penny!

CURBSIDECOLUMN  A lot of people who have a need for decent web sites but don't have a budget for them usually end up with something that simply doesn't carry much "Google Juice." Funny that since our friends with the funny name are essentially the holy grail of search. Most simple-to-use web design programs seem to ignore this fact and make poorly coded sites that make real web designers cringe.

Not Sandvox from Karelia Software. This affordable and easy-to-use program takes full advantage of the Mac interface while also incorporating all the search engine optimization functionality you need.

While there isn't everything you'd find in something like Dream Weaver, this program is also logical and makes sense. I own Dream Weaver too but more often than not I'm using Sandvox. It's simple, effective and lets me get the job done without navigating Adobe's byzantine menu and palate system. Yuck.

Here are some of the sites I've done in Sandvox for your reference:

GRTGRFX  I have the current Pro version. Based on CSS, SandVox definitely separates the content from the visual appearance, which is quite cool to see in action. Yes, it does let you mock up a decent-looking web site in a day or so and many of the built-in functions are time savers. But wow, how it puts you in a straight-jacket, design-wise.

SandVox crashes to the desktop often and projects open during a crash can become corrupted and never open again. It freezes at weird moments, like when you are in the midst of sending a bug report, and it's really difficult to tweak templates to do some of the things I want to, such as placing Google ads on a blog page, for example, or having multiple Amazon items go into one shopping cart (now you can only buy one item at a time), or even opening a new window so visitors can get back to my site after linking out to Amazon. Also, while there are menu items like "Find and replace", they're grayed out because they Karelia hasn't written the code to make the functions work yet.

And there are NO tables, bullets or indents anywhere; if you don't know raw HTML you're out of luck with these common page elements. And most of these HTML-editable sections cannot contain anything else, so no Facebook buttons, Google ads, Digg links, or anything else that requires inline javascripts.

Convenience aside, it's a definite disappointment coming from GoLive or Dreamweaver. Karelia needs to add more flexibility to the CSS engine that drives the layouts ore relegate the program to the corner of the store that is for amateurs and individuals making their first web sites.

MAKANGSI  I have been trying many applications for web publishing and Sandvox was the one I chose for it's ease of use and useful features.

I recommend this to those who have no or little knowledge of HTML and want to build a nice site.

ANDRUSHA  ANDRUSHA Sandvox - Only if you don't know ANYTHING about HTML and prefer to live within the Sandbox.

I have to say, this is one of those over-hyped software products that looks easy, but when you want to do anything more than the basics, you'd be better off with another product.

You can't add Flash movies to your site. You can't change the dimensions of graphics on your main pages (320 is the largest pixel size) In fact, more often than not, you'll find yourself wondering why you cannot change something or move something the way you want to. Especially for us mac users, we like to be able to do something easily.

After using this product, you'll quickly want to change things that you cannot change. The inspector, which is a way to see exactly what you're looking at, is a pretty useless tool when you find yourself wanting to open the underlying code (which you have limited access to)

My review is a 1 star out of 5. It needs serious work to be a tool that you'll use alot. After you start making tweaks, Sandvox becomes the limiting factor as it will try to overwrite over your uploaded website each time.

SEMSTUDENT  I love Sandvox, it's the easiest to use and yet most professional web site development tool in my arsenal. I love that the developers are never satisfied but always looking to improve the software through frequent updates and interaction with users. I've always been thrilled with the support and the expanding community of users and template developers. If you do web design on a Mac, you NEED to give this a try, then buy the Sandvox Pro.
