DESCRIPTION

Menuet is now Charityware. This means that you can download/register Menuet as you like, but will also remember to donate to a charity of your choice in the near future. Click here to find out more.

Menuet is a companion to iTunes that not only offers a variety of fun and efficient alternative control methods, but also extends iTunes with some highly requested features.

Navigate through your music library... Menuet offers several effortless and alternative ways to control your music. whether by hot keys, the built-in control click menu, smart browsing, or the totally skinnable remote.

Music for your ears... and eyes. We all remember Panic's skinnable but retired Audion with much fondness, which is why we made full skins support a priority. There's over ten diverse skins ranging from the minimal to the sleek, quirky, and outlandish, with many more to come.

Join the social music revolution! Last.fm can keep track of your listening habits through Menuet and offer recommendations, statistics, and even potential friends based on this information. That's right, listening to music through headphones on your Mac is now a social activity!

Not just music, but art?! Album artwork has become an integral part of a digital music collection, and now Menuet offers an easy way to download high-resolution artwork for currently playing tracks and albums with its integrated Artwork Collector.

Had a long night? Music can be the perfect sleep aid... but it doesn't help when you have to get up and turn it off just when you're getting tired. Menuet's sleep timer can not only turn off playing music but also put your computer to sleep right after you fall asleep.

What group is this? Menuet fully supports the Growl framework, which means information can be displayed in bezels when changing tracks. In combination with hot keys, you can now listen to your favorite music and know exactly what it is, without even switching to iTunes.

MACLOVIN  When it gets the album art, does it embed it in the file or save it to a folder?

GRYPHONENT  I''m sorry... but that post dates from 14-Sep-2006!! We've got 2007 by now. Moreover, it's almost one year later with September only few weeks away.

Sorry, but Menuet has gone the way of the Dodo for me.

ZETTT  Looks great - since its just the installer ;)

Will it be charityware, too? Means will i have to spend some money again or will it be free?

Thanks for spending so much time into Menuet

FILIPP  For the most part, I like Menuet alot. You can probably find the same functionality in a combination of different freeware bits (or maybe even a single app, I'm probably way behind here by now), but it's the whole package that made me whip out the credit card.

Having said that, it's important that all the different pieces work well and that's not always the case with the current version. last.fm support is extremely shaky with constant complaining about connection timeouts (while the official conduit works just fine).

The conduit also says it will try to re-submit the info but in reality you have to manually re-enable last.fm support for it to do so.

The remote control/shortcut feature is extremely useful, but the Mute function doesn't really mute - it turns the volume to zero and then back to full (!) again. This can cause quite a shock if you normally have the volume at half.

Art Collector is less of a killer feature now that iTunes can fetch all the artwork in the iTS (just change the album name). Nice to see that it has been updated though and it *does* work much faster than before.

There's a button for adding skins but there aren't any skins to be found.

And the reason I'm saying all of this here, is that none of my emails to the developers have been answered (at least not to my knowledge).

Looking forward to v2. Normally I wouldn't expect major number upgrades to be free, but in this case I'm not so sure.

JEZDEZ  I emailed one of the Specere devs and he replied:

"Yes, development is happening, albeit slowly due to some changes in the development team. A version 2.0 should be out very soon."

GRYPHONENT  In beta since June 2006... no replies from developer, forums on site closed. Me thinks this fish is dead in the water. I’m going back to Synergy.

FLOUNDER  I like menuet but I wish it had more visual feedback for actions like a popup that says going to the next song or play/pause or increase the volume. I like to know that when I hit the hot keys something is happening

THEALLSEER  Looks like someone is taking a page from the Acquisition developer's notes. There's a nag screen that pops up every hour or so if you're running the program as a "trial". I think the dev should revise the text to say "10 day free trial... until we bug you enough to either buy it or uninstall it during those 10 days".

If you're going to have an evaluation period, don't bug your potential buyers with these nag screens. You lost me, and it only took 2 hours.

    EXILIO  Agreed.

I was thinking about buying this application but decided not to based on principal alone. If you are truly going to give people a demo, don't annoy them. Just turn it off after the demo period.

APPLECRYPT MODS  This can sometimes come up with the spinning wheel if your library is quite large. I've a dual G5 with over a couple thousand tunes. Not too many compared to others and a powerful mac too, so disapointing to see the spinning wheel...

But still glad i registered!! :)

If you are looking for a iTunes controler, with a stylish look, this is it. The growl support is really great too.
