I was a Screen Mimic customer from version 1.0. Their upgrade policy is ridiculous. For us loyal customers, they'll apply a whopping $4.99 towards the upgrade. So instead of $65.00, it's $60.01

Big deal.

Since I had already paid $24.99 for the first version, I would have been willing to pay the same amount or maybe even a bit more to upgrade. But not $60.00. These guys are out of their mind.

Screen Flick gets the job done, and it's only $24.99. Doesn't do flash, but there are other ways to convert video to flash.

BITURBO27T  This is a fantastic program, but I too have to agree that the the price is way too steep. I like the idea of maybe a light version without Flash exporting as someone else mentioned to get the price down to maybe $15-20. I'd go for it at that price point.

When you can get iLife (6 fantastic programs) for only $15 more than this, you're left scratching your head. Tuff one to justify.

IAMDORIAN  I have to agree with the complaints over the price being to high. In fact, it's arguable that this level of screen capture functionality should be included in Apple's OSXes in the first place.

However, to be fair, this is probably the most up-to-date screen/movie capture app going on Mac OSX. Plus, it costs money to license Flash technology at this level, so if you want Flash output (many do) this is not a bad deal at all (not to mention convenient).

It might behoove the developer to the the Lite/Pro approach, leaving out the Flash component in the lower-end version - especially useful if you already have a Flash encoder and don't need another. Pricing this product at a $15-$20 range for a lite version, and $50+ for the Pro version, would end all the negative comments (more stars, more sales, - quid quo pro).

To be totally fair, SnapX Pro (finally) upgraded their product a few months back to make it compatible with the newer version(s) of Mac OS X (there was quite a delay originally). I bought this once and have had free upgrade forever. How fair is that?

LEEFALIN  iShow actually does not do the same.

In addition to QuickTime format, Screen Mimic also encodes to Flash (SWF) and Flash Video. Something that niether iShowU nor SnapzPro will do.

In addition Screen Mimic allows you to save your recording in raw format so that you can encode it at a later time with different options.

Finally, Screen Mimic allows you to encode a seperate audio track in place of that captured during recording.
