COUGARBLUE  The Russian site works fine. I know it's a year later than when the download site was first listed and 2 years since the developer suggested we go to HandBrake instead, so I have no idea what the compatibility with 10.5 might be. I now have the download and I'm going to give it a shot. I cannot get a workable copy of a widescreen movie off HandBrake using any of the pre-sets, nor when I add my own. In some cases you have to settle for 320 X 126. I hope I can remedy the problem with DVD2Pod.

No wonder its been discontinued. It completely kicks ass!!!! I bet they got a lot of Hell from the movie companies about this little converter.

If you can't find it, e-mail me and I'll send it over.

BRITBLOGGER  DVD2Pod is without question the best free DVD ripper/converter for the iPod, hand down. I've used Handbrake and it takes forever to rip/convert, and I've also used YadeX (rip), MacTheRipper (rip) to rip vobs, and then ffmpegx to convert to iPod compatible MP4s, and it's way too convoluted.

Thank you for an amazing rip/convert tool for the iPod.

KAINJOW  DVD2Pod is being discontinued. I would suggest using Instant Handbrake, which is virtually the same thing, which supports more features (and appears to be more actively developed).

JIMMY NG  Very promising program. Very quick. The quality is reasonable for many application. But, will be great to have better quality option when using it to copy DVD into iPod video.

However, it cannot copy DVD that has many chapters like DVD of comedies. It will be great if it can extract chapters.

Also, if Audio quality can be adjusted, it will be fantastic for many music DVD that can be downloaded to the iPod Video. Great for the gym.

KEITHS  I have been using HandBrake. Great program. Just downloaded DVD2Pod 0.2. I love it. I ripped a 1.5hr movie in 30 minutes on my G5. Simple, quick, works.

QW3RTY  This is a great program. Works just the way it should. The only thing I think it needs is a way to change the default bit rate for better quality encodings.

HAPHAZARD  the handbrake, the app DVD2Pod is base on, offers you those options. here's a good how-to manual for handbrake:

QW3RTY  I just tried DVD2Pod. It seems to work, the sound and video were lined up correctly. It was also very fast. But the video was a little lesser quality than when I converted divx avi's with Quicktime.

SJJ_PUBLIC  This is a great idea. I want something that my Mom can use to convert DVDs for her iPod, and Handbrake still involves some knowledge of the process. However, I want a program that will output video at the highest resolution and quality that the iPod can play back to facilitate high quality viewing on a TV (in addition to watching it on the iPod). This program only outputs at 320x240. So what I'd really like is something that autocrops out black bars and then determines the maximum possible resolution (limited to 230,400 pixels for MPEG4 format for the iPod) for the given video, and compresses at highest quality. Still, if you just want to watch your DVD on your iPod only, then this fits the bill very nicely indeed. Load a DVD and click a button. Nice.
