DESCRIPTION
Software Update By SW runs a command-line argument to check for and install all available updates through Apple Software Update.

***THERE IS NO APPLICATION!*** (the installer IS the program!) When you run the "installer", there are scripts which run in the background and force Mac OS X to download and install all available updates through Apple Software Update. If you want to run the program again, "install" the package again.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.7:
  • More logging for system events
  • Log files now placed in separate directory (/Library/Logs/SISUWORKS/SoftwareUpdateBySW.log)
  • Reduced dependency on executing commands as root, due to the fact that root authentication is required anyways
  • Forced Software to only run on Root volume (currently booted volume) to clear up some confusion
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.2 or later.

PER MATTSSON  No need for any software what so ever, simply type: 'sudo softwareupdate -i -a'

    that's it

LOGICAT  Originally, I was going to write a comment that /usr/sbin/softwareupdate has been available in Mac OS X since 10.2.x. The description above is a bit terse, and on first read I couldn't understand why you were offering something that's already present in the OS.

Here's the move verbose description from the developer's web page, which gave me my eureka moment: "A packagemaker script (installer) used for forcing macs to install all available Software Updates from Apple in Mac OS X (Tiger) in conjunction with NetBoot/ARD to run command on multiple macs remotely"

MACUPDATE ADMIN  The parsimonious description was provided to MacUpdate by the developer.

KALIKKALIK  We'll be more descriptive in the future; we primarily offer these packages to clients who use NetInstall/NetBoot/Apple Remote Desktop and need simple scripts they can use on multiple maccs simultaneously.
