DESCRIPTION

fKeys is a MacOS X keyboard tweaker. It is heavily inspired by uControl, but it's rewritten for Tiger from the ground up. In fact, it ONLY runs on Tiger.

Since fKeys is very young, it does only three things at present:

  • Caps Lock on every keyboard attached to your Macintosh turns into a Control key.
  • The right Control key of any external keyboard connected to your Macintosh becomes a Command key.
  • The Enter key on the internal keyboard of a Powerbook becomes an Option key.
WHAT'S NEW
fKeys 0.0.5, and its cousin 0.0.6, add support for USB-based PowerBooks. All the PowerBooks should be supported now (as long as they're running Tiger).
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4.2 or later.

EDUO  Fkeys is a great start, and a good replacement for uControl now that it's been discontinued.

I personally thank the coming of a new utility and eagerly await for it's expanded functionality (as it currently is is useless for me). Personally I hope some kind of solutions springs up where keys in extended multimedia keyboards can be recognized and then assigned to functions in MacOS.

I currently use a Belkin Internet Keyboard (USB) and only three of the bunch of extra keys work. This is for my mother-in-law so for her it's confusing to have so many keys with no use.
