Xiph QuickTime Components (XiphQT) is, essentially, for Mac users who want to use Xiph formats in any QuickTime-based application, e.g. playing Ogg Vorbis in iTunes or producing Ogg Theora with iMovie.
BRSMA For the time being, to *encode* ogg, flac, etc., i would like to heavily recommend Max [http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/19873] which is free (as in beer and freedom), as well. (Version 0.1.5)
MIKURO This is a playback component, not an encoder. I hope they'll include an encoder at some point, but it's by no means a requirement of a QuickTime component.
In the meantime, you can create ogg files using the oft-overlooked conversion features of VLC (use the "Streaming/Exporting Wizard"). These files can then by played in any QT-compatible player with the use of this component.
Encoder or no, this is a very useful component. Works great in Tiger. (10.4.6 PPC, QuickTime 7.0.4). (Version 0.1.5)
LEONCAHUN I'm a bit confused: shouldn't a Quicktime Component for Ogg provide an option to export to Ogg from within Quicktime Player (Pro)?
I installed Xiph QT Component 0.1.3 on Tiger 10.4.5, QT 7.0.4 (Pro) and, yes, I (QT Player, iTunes 6.0.4) can play ogg-files, but there is no ogg-entry in the export-menu of QT Player.
Also, the Info-panel in iTunes classifies the ogg-files as "Quicktime movie file". (Version 0.1.3)
SWORDFISH Well it IS a Quicktime movie file since Quicktime can play it ;) (Version 0.1.5)

JCRAIG This is the first version of this component that works fairly well with streaming .ogg/icecast and Quicktime (according to bug reports on the site, getting this to work with iTunes is an Apple issue and may not be possible). Work on metadata needs to be done, as the QT player title remains at whatever was playing when first connected. Nice update! (Version 0.1.3)
JCRAIG Just to add, the stream played for about 20 minutes. Further attempts to restart the stream would result in extremely sluggish response of QT menus and occasional beachballs. It's a start, but there's more to do in this area. (Version 0.1.3)

JEDIK Also, when the OGG file is opened in iTunes the Title atribute isn't set as the song's Name.
But it works nicer than the other plugin version. Thanks! ;) (Version 0.1.3)

JOSELU Did not work on my Tiger 10.4.3. It just wouldn't do anything at all. Made me to switch back using the "Ogg Vorbis r45" plug-in. (Version 0.1.2)
JOSELU By the way, I'm using iTunes 6.0.1(3) and Quicktime 7.0.3. (Version 0.1.2)
