DESCRIPTION
Lingon is a graphical user interface for creating an editing launchd configuration files for Mac OS X Leopard 10.5. You can use launchd on a Mac to launch scripts and applications whenever something special happens or at a specific time or periodically. You get all launchd configuration files in a list to the left so you can easily see all and choose which one to edit.
Editing a configuration file is easier than ever in this version and it has two different modes. Basic Mode which has the most common settings readily available in a very simple interface and Expert Mode where you can add all settings either directly in the text or insert them through a menu.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.1:
  • Added Expert Mode where all parameters can be set
  • Added Swedish localisation
  • Updated the appearance
  • Some small fixes

GRANTNEUFELD  The link to version 1.2.1 downloads a completely different program - Smultron.

The correct link is:

ZEITKIND  OK, after contacting the developer, he found the bug and already made a new version (2.01). Lingon starts fine now. If all developers were so responsive...

Nice tool for people who know what they do. Thx!

CALABAR_BEAN  Perfect, except one issue:

If using without admin-rights, i.e. just for viewing, it keeps asking for credentials, even if you don't wanna change anything. It should only ask for authentication while editing or writing changes.

PETER BORG  The reason that it asks you to authenticate as an admin even when you are not editing, is because that is the only way to find out if a launchd is loaded or not. If you don't want to authenticate you can just press Escape or choose Cancel in the authentication dialogue and then it will display a question mark instead of a loaded or unloaded icon.

MATS THORBURN  Saved my day. I needed to keep a script alive on a kiosk-type computer - guaranteed, for a long time.

Still works, after six months. If it crashes, it immediately kicks in again, thanks to launchd and Lingon.

GERBER  Wonderful program. Making launchd agents isn't for the faint of heart, but Lingon makes it quick and easy. Lingon even takes a stab at making it intuitive, and succeeds as much as they might, given how complex these launchd files can be.

Lingon also serves as a wonderful interface to control the under-the-hood daemons and agents that make your Mac do what it does.

So far, no crashes, freezes, damaging of my computer (except when I cancelled the loginwindow, but ANYONE could do that!) or anything else. Solid, wonderful, helpful program!
