KK_IMAC  Got an DVD image in .img format, I first tried to burn it onto a blank DVD with the built-in Mac OS application but without success. It keeps saying my blank DVD isn't large enough for the image to burn. Then I looked around here to find a useful (and free) app and SimplyBurns does what I want with ease. It's weird that in Mac OS, it shows the image as 4.7GB but SimplyBurns shows it as 4.3GB. Anyways, I highly recommend this software though I haven't tried any others.

DP-G4-450GUY  I have a CDimage.ape, CDImage.ape.cue and a CDImage.cue file ...

can this program burn a CD from these (Windows produced) files?

I've tried using the Image portion of the SW but the resulting burned disc is 3,460 GB !!! No drive let alone optical media for that.

The .ape is 326MB.

Thanks

LAURE  I have used the copy 1:1 feature once with success. I wanted to burn several DVDs but I am not sure how to do this. I see a copy again button that is greyed out and do not seem to be able to access a previously created project.

I would like to be able to keep burning new disks whenever needed from the first image, is it possible to save it as a project or find it on my drive?

DEMORAY  This is a well-made piece of freeware. I'm glad it's ready for Snow Leopard now.

Too bad I can't download it because the developer's link and site are having problems.

PARISLEXI  Tried burning CDs via iTunes on my MacBook several times using various speeds - CD wouldn't play in my car. Burning CDs via iTunes on my PC works fine but not on my MacBook (bought new less than a year ago).

Downloaded SimplyBurns, created CD using same tunes I had in the iTunes playlist - SUCCESSFUL!!

Very simple, I didn't have to fiddle around with options, preferences: just dragged the tunes from iTunes to the SimplyBurns list area, clicked on 'Burn' ...that's all folks!!!

I wasted about 10 blank CDs trying to burn via iTunes.

I wasted 0 blank CDs burning via SimplyBurns.

Found SimplyBurns via Google search. Very glad I did!!

FORMICA  I get that that this app is free (and thanks to the developer), but there are several free CD/DVD burning apps out there that do a lot more than this, like Burn 2.2u (the best), LiquidCD 2.0, and many others that, like this, are not really worth considering in the same light as the 2 mentioned above.

MADMEGDIGITALLTD  Based on your review, I tried Liquid CD, which promptly made a coaster. Then I tried Burn, which crashed. Desperate, I get SimplyBurns a try and it simply lived up to its name. Why did your review have to be at the top of the page?

EASER  Moreover, with Liquid CD, I have been unable to rearrange the order of the tracks prior to burning. When I drag them into the main window, they are in a particular order, and they stay that way. Granted, I might be doing something wrong; but I've tried to rearrange the tracks a number of times and ways and have not found a way to do so. SimplyBurns allows me to reorganize the tracks within its window.

MATTHEWJ  SimplyBurns - click Burn nothing happens

I'm using OS X 10.5.2

Downloaded latest SimplyBurns today. Installed OK.

1- I'm trying to burn DMG images to CD/DVD. "Burn Image Mode".

2- I can see Burn Destination: Medium, Capacity, Writable, Disk Usage.

3- I click Choose and select a DMG file [open].

4- I can see the file in Source Image.

5- I cannot see anything below Source Image:

6- There is nothing in Image Format, Image File Size, Total Size, Partitions.

7- When I click Burn nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong ???

MARTIN KöHLER  Seems like the dmg-image is corrupted.

Can you mount the dmg by double clicking it?

MATTHEWJ  I got frustrated after many attempts with MANY different DMG's ,,, and REMOVED the SimplyBurns product from my machine when it failed to work, giving me no critical "feedback" [i.e. error messages]. I found it to be NOT-AT-ALL "user friendly".

With me ,,, user friendliness is a MUST !!!

Thanks for the help.

MARTIN KöHLER  Hi MatthewJ,

Thanks for your bug report.

I've nailed it down, and fixed it:

There are different types of DMG (ReadOnly, Compressed, Read/Write).

Only Read/Write DMGs were affected,

they're now loadable and burnable again.

If you write me an email (mkoehler@users.berlios.de),

I can send you an intermediate build,

which should fix your issues.

Let's see if it works for you,

then we can release it as an update.

SURFWALKER  Will this burn DVD's that will work in my DVD player and does it burn VIDEO_TS folders? I know absolutely nothing about this process... :/

MARTIN KöHLER  Normally, you can create a data project and set the filesystem type to DVD-ROM.

Then you drag the VIDEO_TS folder into this project, and rename the disc label by single-clicking the filesystem tree root node.

Most DVD players should accept media created this way. Some won't, f.ex. my father's player categorically rejects ALL burned media, even if they work in dozens of other players.

FARDILHA  Hi.

I'm trying to use SImplyBurns under 10.5.2 to burn a multi-session DVD in HFS+ format.

According to the docs, HFS+ is right now the only way to do multi-session under SimplyBurns. (it creates a new volume for each new session)

Somehow, even with the "leave the disc appendable" option selected, SImplyBurns refuses to allow me to add a new session to it.

Does anyone have this sort of problems?

Thank you!

FARDILHA  I forget to do a basic question:

Does DVD media allow for multi-sessions?

Thanks!

EASER  I have not seen a way to do multi-session burns with this program. But among the free programs, I still like this one best. So I put up with the annoyance of no multi-session burns.

AVOGADRO23  Yes, DVD formats do allow multi-session. Most Windows programs support this. However for some (inexcusable) reason neither MacOS nor any Mac programs support multi-session DVD burning. Apple supports multi-session *CD* burning but nowadays what's the point. That's a feature that was relevant 10 years ago. Right now if I really want to write a multisession DVD I do it using Nero by running VMWare Fusion. Very annoying.
