DESCRIPTION
LEGO Digital Designer allows you to build virtually anything your imagination can create, using virtual LEGO blocks on your Mac.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 3.0.9:
  • Delivery: With an ever expanding list, we now handpick and deliver customized sets to 21 countries. Check out if yours is on the list here .
  • A Fresh New Box: With our new box-designer, you will now create a High-Quality box to house the pieces of your custom models.
  • (NEW) Building guides: With advanced software we are now able to print and include step by step Building Guides... enabling building in any desired location.
  • (NEW) Browser Integration: On the right side of the screen you will now have access to helpful, inspirational, informative, as well as other relevant information.
  • Palette: With a palette consisting of 1481 bricks, there are no limits for what kind of creations you can make.
  • (NEW) Panel Docking: In order of making the working area clean and structured, we have decided to move on and dock the panels.
  • Toolbar: To continue down the structured path we have docked the toolbar to the bottom of the screen.
  • (NEW) Hide Tool: With this tool you can now choose to hide bricks, in order of focusing on other parts of your model. Have you built a house but realized you want to add the insides, easy, simply hide a wall and continue building inside.
  • Hinge Tool: With this improved tool you now have a helpful angle controller, helping you fine adjust your hinged bricks.
  • (NEW) Hinge Align Tool: With this tool you can align sequences of hinged elements. Click on the start knob then on the connection point in the last brick, LDD will do the rest (hinge connections need to be physically possible for this tool to work).
  • (NEW) Grouping Function: Grouping sections of your model will help you organize and control the building process better.
  • (NEW) Purchase Optimization: With LDD 3.0 we say goodbye to long searches for what bricks cannot be purchased. If you try to purchase a model containing unavailable bricks, you will now be notified of which, and in some cases even given choices for new ones to replace them with.
  • Performance: After optimized and clever programming, LDD 3.0 shows off muscle as well as stamina, handling bigger models with no hesitation.

TTLCNTRLPRINT  Be forewarned this is an Intel only version. I've emailed the company and they haven't been very helpful thus far.

DBAGDADI  Beware! Even though the notes on MacUpdate says that v3.0.9 is PPC and Intel compatible, after installing it I found out that it's ONLY Intel compatible (no PPC binaries)! This installer will overwrite your previous version.

The package installer Read ME states that it's only Intel compatible :(

VERYCARLA  MacBook and Mac mini owners, do NOT bother with this. Yes, I know it specifies a real video card in the specs, but I had to try it anyway. It runs like a dog on the MacBook and its craptastic Intel GMA950 graphics "accelerator".

Apple, stop cheaping out and give the entry level MacBook a REAL video card!

SITHLORD  What a fabulous update! The interface has been greatly improved, and the speed of the application has also been significantly improved. My kids are having a ball with this program. And it is free - you can't go wrong!

BRADD ROBERSON   Ok, just downloaded this, I guess it's been around for a while. I never knew about it.

The concept of having a FREE application that allows you to create anything you want, and then have Lego ship you the parts sounds like a dream come true.

The only issue I have with the application (which is easy enough to use) is the limited block sets... It comes with one for trains (as of April '07 or build 2.0).

I was looking to build something for Star Wars, but realized that even standard blocks were missing, not to mention the less common pieces.

What's MORE disappointing is that you can't get the missing blocks anywhere... So if you want to really get creative, you're stuck with just basic blocks.

PIETRO  Give a look to the gallery ... you'll find some awesome models! You can also download and edit them with Lego DD (and you can view the build instruction asnimation of that model).

ANONYMOUS  boots slow on first run but after it works perfectly fine, maybe it has to render these files? but why can you only use a limited amount of bricks? we all know theres no shortage on those things

TOM  It's unreasonably slow to boot up on a 1GHz G4 that has a more than reasonable graphics card, taking 3 minutes almost on first run, it freezes up for aprox. 10 seconds on subsequent runs while its "looking for new bricks"

oi

Maybe Windows users are used to this kinda of rubbish, but this is a mac, have some respect LEGO and clean this program up. What's with the wack UI anyway?

ANONYMOUS  My son started to play with it two weeks ago and now it's impossible to detach him from the machine. A great and useful application! Kudos to LEGO for giving it away for free!
