DESCRIPTION
With Dashboard KickStart (formerly Dashboard Start), you'll always have the Dashboard ready to use the first time you want. Without it you'll have to wait for a complete Dashboard start-up sequence as soon as you are ready use it for a first time, making its quick accessibility rather useless.

This application runs in the background and reacts to the starting or re-starting of the Dock and to waking up from sleep mode. When that happens it initiates the starting of the Dashboard.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 3.1:
  • Added 64-bit support
  • Further reduced processor usage
  • Fixes to the Japanese Localization
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

STRIDER72  A shame the author chose to make this a Preference Pane in version 3-- it adds clutter to an already crowded screen, rather than just giving me a simple app that I can have run on login. I'll stick to v2 for now, thanks....

ASMEURER  Copy this into Script Editor and save as an Application:

do shell script "open /Applications/Dashboard.app/;open /Applications/Expose.app/;open /Applications/Expose.app/"

Then set it to open at login.

NITEWING98  Works like a charm on my G3 iMac! I've hated the upgrade to Tiger because Dashboard is so slow to start when I use it the first time, and this solved the problem.

To the person who complained about it staying open in memory watching the dock, you can turn off that behavior by selecting "Quit after first activation." Please read the directions before posting sloppy, mean reviews.

MACUSER25  I think this a really cool addition to Mac OS, it does what it says and doesn't hang up log in time or slow down dashboard. I like it, and works on both mac platforms, PPC and intel based.

BDLATIMER  Sorry, but this is a really really BAD implementation. Instead of doing its thing and getting out of the way, this app remains in memory, constantly listening for changes to the Dock.

In addition, it is distributed in the form of a .pkg, for NO reason - it would be more easily distributed as a drag-install. Not to mention, the ownership & permissions on the app (which is installed to "/Applications/Utilities/") are INCORRECTLY set to "755, 501:501", when they should be "775 root:admin".

Again, this is simply a really really BAD implementation, which should not be used by anyone. A better solution is the much-smaller, much-more-correct "DashboardStarter" - see

ANONYMOUS  thanks. Maybe a little note in the readme about taking the app out of the login item after first launch would help people like me. It works great now.
