DESCRIPTION
eBook Library supports speed reading plus an eBookshelf. You can practice your speed reading skills using plain text eBook files with speeds between 50 wpm and 1500 wpm. Reading speed is set using four ranges (very slow, slow, medium, and fast) and a slider is provided to adjust the speed within each range. Speed settings are saved between sessions. Any plain text file may be used but eBook text files can be downloaded free from the internet. The user should copy just the eBook text, paste into a TextEdit file and save as plain text with Unicode UTF-8 encoding. This file is then used as a source file. Select this source by clicking on the "Choose New Source" button and navigating to the file. The line number of the line being displayed is shown together with the total number of lines in the source text file. You can pause and continue at any time. If you do not finish reading a text file, eBook Library will remember the last line read and provide this information when you relaunch to continue reading. In that case, you would click on the "Use Last Source" button to load text saved during the previous session after parsing. You may start reading at the beginning or at any line. You may select automatic or manual scrolling. When you first launch eBook Library, a folder titled "eBookshelf" is added to your Documents folder. The eBook menu includes a menu pick to help you find free eBooks on the internet, a menu pick to load a file from your eBookshelf and another menu pick to let you save a parsed text file to your eBookshelf. An eBook loaded from your eBookshelf appears in the display almost immediately. A Help window is available. Version 6.2.0 is Universal Binary.

Versions 6.2.1 and 6.2.2 are bug fixes. Version 6.2 lets you tap the spacebar to pause or continue reading (vice clicking on the "Pause/Continue" button).

MACINSHROOM  Well i have found this application really usefull, i have greatly improved my reading speed since i started using it, and the features just make it better because now i can use texts in lenguages other than english (with international characters), also the parsing process of new books is very fast now.

The program also has a neat (optional) auto-scroll feature that makes it very confortable to read large texts without having to have the hand in the keyboard or mouse all the time.

The application interface also helps you focus on the text a lot more than using another text reader. If you are new just follow the instructions in the help menu to understand how to import new books.  (Version 6.0)

NADEEMF  Could developers try and avoid sitx files - StuffitExpander is no longer bundled with Macs; better to distribute a zip'ped dmg.  (Version 5.0)

TNH  This could be useful if it took advantage of pyrite publisher or pyrite reader to read pdbs, as many people have ebooks in that format. Going from plain text to readable by the application takes far too long and this code could probably be optimized. It DOES do that neat new flash a word or so on the screen so you can read faster, but as far as 'library' I wouldn't say it fills what I would want (think itunes for books). There's room for improvement, but it is useful. Start with REALLY small texts if you don't want to wait.  (Version 3.1.2)
