DESCRIPTION
CuteClip 3 is the perfect companion for Mac OS X's native clipboard. It integrates perfect with the look of Mac OS X and completely stays out of the users way. CuteClips sits in the background and continuously records changes to the clipboard in order to provide access to them when the user needs it. CuteClips 3 is a complete rewrite, which we used to focus on what's most important: simplicity. The simple but highly efficient user interface allows the user to quickly find the clip that he/she is looking for. This is achieved providing a textual list of all clips for a perfect overview in addition to a huge preview for a detailed view of a clip.
To activate CuteClips 3 the user can either use the the menu item or the HotKey, which defaults to Command-Shift-V, the shortcut for pasting but with a pressed shift key. CuteClips can either be controlled by mouse, but also via keyboard, which makes it useful also for seasoned users who prefer speed and efficient usability.
To prevent clips from being automatically deleted, the user can make clips sticky or assign shortcuts to them. With these shortcuts the clips can be pasted without even searching for them. The user just needs to activate CuteClips and hit the shortcut key and its clip is pasted instantly. Some more advanced features in CuteClips are the ability to paste any clip as plain text, paste multiple clips in a row or paste only parts of a clip.
Feature Highlights:
- Easy to use interface
- Big preview for each clip
- Fully accessible via keyboard or mouse
- Automatically records any changes to the clipboard in background
- Keep track of 12 - 50 clips
- Richtext clips can be pasted as plaintext with ease (press cmd when selecting the clip)
- Paste several clips in a row by selecting them with space
- Make clips sticky to prevent them from being deleted automatically
- Assign shortcuts to clips for faster access
- Paste only parts of clips, e.g. only the name of a copied file
WHAT'S NEW
Version 3.0.9:
- sparkle didn't automatically install the update once it was loaded. The works now
- the text in the preview area was not as sharp as it should be. Now it looks as sharp as everywhere else in the system
- the background color of the preview area is a bit brighter now
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

RAPIDLY WOVEN I've tried both the cmd+Q and quitting through the preference panel. Neither one actually quit the app as a quick squeeze of the mighty mouse and the app pops up. If this app was actually quit, this would not happen... the squeeze would result in nothing. (Version 3.0.7)

KARSTEN@BRIKSOFTWARE.COM I understand, it really seems that CuteClips doesn't quit. However, the squeeze action is set so that it launches CuteClips. If CuteClips is already running and you squeeze, this will only activate CuteClips as if you would have pressed the hotkey. You can open Activity Manager and see that quitting CuteClips actually quits it. You should also see that the menu item disappears. It should be back when you squeeze.

RAPIDLY WOVEN I rate this app 1 out of 5 stars. I've found that the app easily stalls while trying to remove clips. Additionally the app has the overwhelming tendency to close itself requiring the user to either place the app on the dock, to use the mighty mouse squeeze shortcut, or to use the keys shortcut. Next I found that the overall UI (user interface) is next to none which leaves the user guessing on how to use it. Finally, quitting this app doesn't really quit it and actually the app keeps running unless you uninstall or turn your Mac off. I give this app a big thumbs down due to the issues mentioned. To the developer, you need to go back to the drawing board on this and rebuild and/or greatly improve this app. (Version 3.0.7)

the idea of CuteClips is that it doesn't stay in your way, thus the window always hides itself once you selected a clip that you want to paste. CuteClips still runs, as you can still see it in the menu bar. The user interface is keept very simple in order to just provide the clips that were on the clipboard and nothing else. there's not much to guess on how to use it. You activate CuteClips and select a clip that you want to paste...there's nothing else you need to do. If you want to quit CuteClips you can do so by activating it and hit cmd-q. As CuteClips is a background application you don't have a menu bar where you can select quit. There's also the option to quit CuteClips from the preferences window. However, i already plan to integrate the current features like shortcuts and sticky clips easier in the UI so that the gear menu of each clip is not needed anymore. It just needs some time to implement them. (Version 3.0.7)

DRDUL I'm posting this as a comment rather than a 5-star review, because I already posted a 5-star review a couple of years ago. CuteClips continues to be my favourite clipboard manager, and Karsten continues to be a responsive developer. Just for the fun of it, I had a look at some of the other popular clipboard apps, and for my needs, none of them compare. What I like about CuteClips is its simplicity, yet it offers the features that I want: Direct pasting (rather than just putting the selected clip on the clipboard as some other apps do) The option of stripping formatting and pasting plain text The ability to make clips "sticky" and assign numeric shortcuts A clean and attractive appearance (Version 3.0b22)

FRANK PARTH I liked its simplicity. But it takes 20-30 seconds for a clip to actually paste, much too slow for me. (Version 3.0b16)

KARSTEN@BRIKSOFTWARE.COM i think i addressed this issue in beta17. in beta16 CuteClips could become really slow as it wasn't removing old clips. (Version 3.0b17)

FRANCOLA Great update! Unless you need the complexity or security of PTHPasteboard, CuteClips is a great clipboard manager. Unlike even PTHPasteboard, CuteClips shows a nicely laid out graphical representation and description of file types as well as text. Looking forward to the final release! Keep up the good work. KURAMEI I've tried other clipboard software and so far I'm liking it a lot because it's simple, Mac-like, and intuitive. There are couple things I've noticed: 1. When uses Spaces under Leopard, when I have the clipboard pop up using a hotkey on one desktop, it will force Spaces to the other virtual desktop the popup was originally. In other words, when I'm trying to paste something in Word for instance in Space 3, I pop up CuteClips which is on Space 1, then I have to drag CuteClips to Space 3 to paste what I want to paste on Word. Making the CuteClips Window appear without having to move through Spaces would be an importance feature to have. 2. There seems to be a bug with the ordering system through the App. I finished buying the beta, but I couldn't save the receipt. The save dialog didn't work and was frozen. All in all, it looks promising, and a far better alternative to the pricier apps out there. (Version 3.0b8)

LUX Since upgrading to Leopard I've been looking for a compatible clipboard utility (iSnip keeps crashing in Leopard), so I bought a CuteClips registration key but it doesn't work. (Version 3.0b7)

KARSTEN@BRIKSOFTWARE.COM Sorry for the inconveniences, but i'm sure I sent you a valid license now :-) It's a problem from Kagi when they send out the mails, sometimes the serial is not long enough. registering through the build in store works though. I'm working on it, so until 3.0 final is out, there should be a fix for this. Until then CuteClips is free to use, and if you register and receive a non-working serial, just contact me and i'll send you a correct one.
