BERKO This app is pretty nice, but it is most useful to folks who have a pretty mainstream taste in music. For those of us who are off the beaten path, limiting searches to olga is pretty much useless. For instance, one artist, Spoken, didn't have a single tab/crd. Drawing from some other sites would be nice. iTunes syncing is nice, but I would also like to see options for adding a tab to id3 tags. For some, adding the tab to the lyrics field would be ideal. For others like me, adding the tab to comments would be better. This should not be automated, however, because of the propensity for tabbers to only tab part of a song or have the thing just down right wrong. Once I find a tab that is good for the song, there should be a button to sync to the id3 tag I select in preferences. Not sure if it's a limit of the trial, but the "Preferences" option was greyed out for me. Also regarding iTunes syncing, TabFinder should look in id3 tags for tabs as well. So, if olga doesn't know an artist, but I put the tab in my file myself, it should still show up. Finally, once a tab is synced up, it should be editable. That could mean keeping text files (like Sing That iTune!) or reading changes from the id3 tags. If I make a correction, I want it to show up. Perhaps this could also be rolled into an iTunes plugin for displaying the tabs within iTunes. I'm not a developer, so I don't know how feasable this would be, but it beats switching to another app. I realize there are iTunes controls in TabFinder, but for me, the iTunes interface is part of the user experience. I like my album art displaying. It would be nice to just have another window I could pop open to view the tab for the currently playing song. Overall, TabFinder is a nice start to what could be a very powerful app or iTunes plugin in the future. Broadening the search capabilities and iTunes integration would make this an invaluable resource for anyone who plays guitar. It would be great to see a version or preference setting to have it search for bass tabs too. (Version 1.1) |
