Phex is a file sharing program running on the Gnutella Network.
Phex is a FREE of spyware and adware - Phex never containd any kind of spyware, adware or any other kind of bundled software.
Multi-plattform support - Whether you use MAC OS X, Linux, Solaris, or Windows Phex is able to run on them all. All you need is a operation system that offers a Java 1.4 Runtime Environment.
Multi-source downloads (Swarming & PFS) - Often the file you like to download is available on several different hosts. Phex will request different segments of the file from each host in parallel. After successfully downloading a segment Phex will merge it with the other segments of that file. This results in a much higher download speed. If a host is too slow the segment is split during download and given to another host. To make sure you never run out of hosts Phex is able to find new download hosts by itself with the automatic search functionality and features the Download Mesh. You can choose for each download whether the segments should be chosen according to their availability (rarest first, BitTorrent-Style), their place in the file (earlier segments first, useful for previewing the file) or for previewing (the first 10MB according to their place in the file, after that according to their availability).
Advanced configuration options - Phex offers very advanced configuration options. Much more than many other clients can offer. Especially advanced user can configure Phex according to their needs and are able to tune and see the effect of different settings.
Passive searching and snooping for files - With the passive search functionality Phex is able to constantly monitor the traffic that goes through the network and collect search results that match your passive search term. Also Phex snoops the traffic for new download candidates you need to finish your downloads faster. This type of searching is useful for longtime monitoring of available files on the network.
Other features include:
Multiple searches.
Ultrapeer and compression technology for reduced bandwidth.
SHOTGUNWEDDINGS And I thought gnutella was dead. I guess if people still enjoy downloading windows viruses and fake files then why not beat a dead horse. (Version 3.4.0.110)
SHOTGUNWEDDINGS You can filter out lot's of stuff, but you can never filter out the fakes when some clown repackaged it. I used to filter any windows related file types, but now the same clowns are adopted Mac file types for their fakes too.
Atleast on a forum or a torrent you can judge by the comments what's the deal with something shared instead. (Version 3.4.2.116)

THOMAS.CRIS Old version worked great, new version launches and immediately freezes on PPC Mac with 10.5.5. Anyway to get old version back? (Version 3.2.6.106)
PASPRO This application does not run on MacOS X (10.5.3). It crashes when it starts and before even opening any windows on the screen. (Version 3.2.2.104)
THECAUSE The program works very well. Stable and able to maintain high transfer speeds. In future versions it would serve it well to have a cleaner, friendlier and less jumbled interface in all windows, including the prefrences. (Version 2.8.6.95)
ERIC CALDWELL OK, figured it out. You have to "show package contents" and CD to the JAVA dir. Then type java -jar phex.jar. It will work after that. (Version 2.8.6.95)

LENTILL Might be a nice alternative to Acquisition (now Shareware) o rsome of the other Gnutella apps, if only it started up! Downloaded it 2 times and it will not start up. Wore out my mouse clicking on it. Running OSX10.4.6 and have Java 1.4.2 as required. Do the 2 accompanying items require individual placement in the OS? (Version 2.8.6.95)
If you don't dig Acqua-GUIs too much, you'll find your Phex to be a well working piece of software which simply does what it should. (Version 2.8.2.92)
