Hide Folders... If you are interested in protecting your documents and folders, Hide Folders is just what you are searching for. With a click you will conceal files and folders with all their contents. The program is simple and natural to use because it works just as you are used to do things everyday with your Mac. With this program you will protect your files avoiding them to be being modified, seen or erased by other users.
This program uses the standard functionality of the operating system to make folders and files invisible. For the majority of users, any folder of file made invisible becomes inaccessible with standard Finder's windows browsing but please be warned that there are some applications that let you open also invisible files and that experienced users could, with particular expertise, gain access to a folder or file made invisible. Whether you need more advanced levels for protecting your data, there are other free of charge ways, as protecting information on removable media or using Mac OS X FileVault.
SPRINGHEELMAC Great program, but I ran into a problem. For reasons having nothing whatsoever to do with "Hide Folders" I had to wipe my internal drive and do a clean install of OSX. To my horror, upon re-installing "Hide Folders", the folder I had made invisible on my external hard drive can't be found. Even when I do a spotlight search I can't locate the invisible files (which I could even when the folder they were in was invisible before). Is there anyway to reverse this? I believe they are still on the drive, as the space available hasn't changed. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. (Version 2008)
SPRINGHEELMAC Thanks!!! It worked great!!! (Version 2008)

FLYING LLAMA Nice and simple, no bugs found. Although, should should only be used for securing files against your grandma or baby sister, as anyone could just type in "cd [path of folder]" and then "ls -a", which would list all of the files and folders, including invisible ones. Still, it does what it claims simply, so five stars.
GSLUSHER One doesn't need to use the terminal. Several utilities, including File Buddy, will find all invisible items. Also, at least in Panther, if you know part of the folder name, you can find it in a command-F search by choosing "Visibility" and "visible and invisible items." File Buddy can also turn invisibility on and off, along with a lot of other functions. (Version 1.4)

GSLUSHER An additional bit of info: you don't need to know anything about the name to find an invisible item with command-F. Just delete the "Name" criterion and use only "Visibility." Worse, once you find a folder that way, you can OPEN it simply by double-clicking on the folder icon in the search results. (Version 1.4)
