DESCRIPTION
Transmission is a fast, easy, and free multi-platform BitTorrent client.
Transmission sets initial preferences so things "Just Work", while advanced features like watch directories, bad peer blocking, and the web interface can be configured with just a few clicks. Macworld put it this way: "It's fast, it's extremely lightweight, and — even though it's available for a variety of platforms — it behaves just as you'd expect a Mac program to."
Transmission supports full encryption, file selection, a web-based interface, groups, peer exchange, automatic port forwarding, webseeds, watch directories, tracker editing, global and per-torrent speed limits, and more.
Its code is freely available online and is licensed under either the GNU Public License v2 or the MIT License. The development team welcomes anyone who is interested in contributing code, documentation, translations, or other help.

MCUSR Does anyone experience similar problem: With 1.8.3 files go "poof" into thin air after download complete. Simply disappear into the magnificent void. Downloaded same torrent with no issues after going back to 1.7.6 (Version 1.83)

ALJUK This is a great torrent client. However, its ability to display the status of peers / seeds (whether "interested", "choked" etc) is flakey. It occsionally works on hovering over an IP in the peer list, but 95% of the time it doesn't. Personally I use Peer Guardian to individually block IPs who don't seed, so from my perspective this is an important feature. (Version 1.83)

PUKKY The best torrent client for Mac! Very fast, stable and automatic (and costumizable). (Version 1.83)

STORMCHILD All of the 1.8x versions I've tried so far have had very poor download performance and a variety of problems. Sticking with 1.76 until they get this mess sorted out, and I would recommend that others do the same. (Version 1.83)

FOU STEP What is a poor download performance? Since I started on 1.7x, and 1.8x, I've been downloading with more than 3 MByte/s. (Version 1.83)

CHARLES_BT Did you even try 1.83 before writing this review? (Version 1.83)

MCROBIE1 1.83 didn't seem to have any problem for me... other than the .part extension, but as that IS a problem for me I too will be sticking with 1.76 (Version 1.83)

MCUSR It would be good to have "select all/deselect all" option when adding a torrent, as some of them include tons of small files. (Version 1.82)

LIVINGS124 And in the future, if you want to be sure that your feature request is actually considered, a third-party review website isn't the place for it. There is a forum and bug-tracker both linked from within the app. (Version 1.82)

ZWILLIAMS I had the exact same problem for a bit were it would refuse to download or seed to any of the connected peers. I did some regular system maintenance (via OnyX), restarted my machine and it seems to work again, right now I’m getting about 532kb/s. (Version 1.82)

There is an active thread about this issue on the Transmission Forums @ http://forum.transmissionbt.com/viewtopic.php?p=44010#p44010 . We're looking for testers to help solve the problem so that we can do a 1.83 release. If you have time, please come take a look and see if the nightly builds linked to in that thread solve the problem for you. Thanks! (Version 1.82)

MAHJUN please remove .part extension for partially downloaded files, or give us the choice in the preferences. We cannot preview movies anymore. You were the best bittorrent for mac, don't give up ! in the meantime , videos addicts, stay with 1.7.x (Version 1.82)

SWORDFISH If you need to preview a file, just copy it on your desktop and rename it with the right extension. Previewing BitTorrent is of little use anyway. Because the download is not progressive, parts are most likely be missing at the beginning, preventing playback. (Version 1.82)

MCROBIE1 Previewing may be of little use to you, but I like to be able to check what I am downloading to ensure I am not wasting time downloading something I don't want. I do not expect to see the whole file and yes I can copy and rename the file, but last week all I had to do was double-click the downloading file get a preview. So the point people are making is that the app has now become less easy to use - never a good development. (Version 1.82)

KWINNER Whenever I quit and restart, Transmission will immediately crash out. So restarting sessions becomes impossible. If I double click a torrent file in Finder to add a new torrent, that seems to cureit. But basically, I am forced to add a torrent each time I wish to restart. Any suggestions about this? Problem exists with 1.8, 1.81 (at least) (Version 1.81)

LIVINGS124 Can you submit a crash log and other information to the developer site? Otherwise you're not going to get support. (Version 1.81)

NEENJA 1.81 actually opens up and runs now without hanging.. but now none of my torrents will start. I had the same few that ran smooth (downloaded) on 1.76. Now, after letting the program sit for about 20 mins, it seems to have trouble connecting to peers and even getting a download started. Yes, my port is open, and yes, I made a post to the application website forums. Where can I find a 1.76 download? (Version 1.81)

ADRIANB "Where can I find a 1.76 download? " Do you see the "Previous versions available here" link above? There you can find all previous versions you want. (Version 1.81)

LIVINGS124 Neenja, the way you report this issue makes me think you're using a tracker using whitelists, meaning you have to wait for them to allow the release until they will start giving peers. (Version 1.81)
| Jan 24 2010 |
ADRIANB @LIVINGS124 No, I don't think this was a whitelist issue. It was a bug in 1.81 that didn't announce the port number: http://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/2793 (Version 1.82)
