DESCRIPTION
Transmission is a fast, easy, and free multi-platform BitTorrent client.
Transmission sets initial preferences so things "Just Work", while advanced features like watch directories, bad peer blocking, and the web interface can be configured with just a few clicks. Macworld put it this way: "It's fast, it's extremely lightweight, and — even though it's available for a variety of platforms — it behaves just as you'd expect a Mac program to."
Transmission supports full encryption, file selection, a web-based interface, groups, peer exchange, automatic port forwarding, webseeds, watch directories, tracker editing, global and per-torrent speed limits, and more.
Its code is freely available online and is licensed under either the GNU Public License v2 or the MIT License. The development team welcomes anyone who is interested in contributing code, documentation, translations, or other help.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.04:
- Fix bug that caused Local Peer Discovery to always be disabled on startup
- Improved shutdown time in some situations
- Fix bad redirect with the web client
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

DOUG ENGELBART Transmission is the most comfortable and most useful torrent downloader so far. But more and more users get sued by lawyers for downloading something with Transmission because it never hides their IP numbers. Lawyers extort postal addresses from the ISPs via those IP numbers. Cloaking the IP address is the most wanted feature that is still not implemented in Transmission. We all need that security. Only Anomos 1.1 promises to be absolutely anonymous, but Anomos is still in its infancy. (Version 2.04)

CHARLES_BT I have three problems with this comment: 1. IP cloaking is *not* "the most wanted feature still not implemented in Transmission". Nobody's ever opened a ticket for it. There are only 14 hits for the word "anonymous" in Transmission's forums in the last year. There are no hits for "anomos" at all. 2. Anomos' protocol is incompatible with BitTorrent. I'm not sure why you think deviating from the BitTorrent spec would be desirable for a BitTorrent client. Transmission doesn't treat your IP any differently than uTorrent, Vuze, or XTorrent do. 3. Anomos is a very interesting project, but they dont' claim to be the silver bullet as you suggest. You claim it makes you "absolutely anonymous" but the project's phrasing is "pseudonymous." LARRYCHARLES I have been running Transmission for 15 months without problems, but suddenly last week, it started crashing my MacBook Pro running OSX 10.5.8. Recently updated to 2.04. Figured out that it was Transmission that was the trouble when it was the only application up. (Version 2.04)

R0N1N You should post your crash logs on the Transmission forums, so the developers are aware and possibly solve your problem. https://forum.transmissionbt.com/ (Version 2.04)

SHADYMAC I don't get it??? Why is this app so popular? It isn't as good or FAST as utorrent. Sure it is compact and better looking thats it! I like the icon a part from that I have tried this time and again and found it to be ridiculously slow in comparison to utorrent. It may have certain other features yet the basic task of downloading torrents is seriously slow. It does not deserve the attention it gets in my opinion. (Version 2.04)

KEESBAKKER Popular it is because it has an easter-egg which you will find after using it for 13 months | in form of a bill. hahahaha. just joking. I hope-- I'm looking at uTorrent right now and it's a beauty. I like the interface very much. What's with the IPFilter, is that an auotmated blocklist? I will change to uTorrent, but I need the blocklist. (Version 2.04)
| Aug 9 2010 |
KEESBAKKER Ok, I figured it out. Downloading a Level1 - blocklist from http://blocklistpro.com/, unzipped and renamed to "IPFilter.dat" and put in uTorrent's "Application Support" Folder works. That's easier with Transmission because you have only to activate the blocklist to download it and it has also an automatic update. uTorrent can learn that from here. Please. (Version 2.04)

KLAGRECA fine. But 1 star? Totally unfair and inaccurate. Transmission is reliable, fast enough, right amount of control and configuration options, and adheres to Mac GUI standards. Please try to be more considerable in the future. (Version 2.04)

I had many issues with the latest version. It didn't download anything very fast. After removing the plist file it worked as a charm. Still the best torrent client. (Version 2.04)

FOLLEREC You could just download The Unarchiver to extract those types of files. No need to add additional complexity to an already complex, but easy to use, application. (Version 2.04)
| Aug 9 2010 |
SOLOSAINT well I don't have a problem unarchiving it, I just want it to unarchived the file when its finished downloading, this is something uTorrent does, that I wish Transmission could do thanks for your help anyway (Version 2.04)
| Aug 25 2010 |
FOLLEREC Sorry for the reply not helping. I think I see what you want. Since you mentioned that you control Transmission via a browser, I assume you have some sort of headless and/or remote Mac. What you probably want is Hazel, which can watch folders for you and perform action based on what files it sees. So perhaps you can set Hazel to automatically watch your completed torrents folders for archives, then automatically unarchive them and delete the original archive. Alas, Hazel isn't free and costs $21.95. There used to be an alternative called File Action, but I can't find it now. Hopefully that helps. Other than that, your only solution, if my assumption that this is a headless and/or remote Mac, is some sort of remote desktop app. (Version 2.04)

SOLOSAINT yes, you are correct, its a mac mini that acts as a media center of sorts, so yeah it would be nice to have my downloads read to watch without having to vnc in and expand them manually. I will give Hazel a shot. thanks for your help

MISHA Depending on the # of torrents you're running and their status Transmission can take up to several minutes to Quit in my experience (the dock icon adds a "quitting" label while it's in the process of quitting). (Version 2.03)

PWNED Crashes my computer. It freezes and I have to do a hard restart almost every time. Back to 1.93 (Version 2.03)

DETTO I'm glad that the bugs from 2.02 are fixed rather quickly. Still...as long as the caching feature isn't available in a stable release I'll stick to uTorrent. I don't like its UI, but it just works and is damn fast. Transmission for me feels pretty stubborn as soon as there are more than 3 torrents downloading relatively fast. Again, this is just the problem with the caching. Will keep an eye on Transmission though. (Version 2.03)
