JULIAN SZULC  Great software! Just the thing I was looking for!

It is fast, stable and doesn't need much cpu power. Ideal for controling iTunes on desktop machine from portable.

The only free product of this kind which a found with big resizeable window with all playlist and songs in iTunes style. EQ and Visuals control are also nice. The only thing you will need to control playback on remote machine.

TATONKA  Great program. Would use it more often, but it needs a very long time for loading the tracks in a playlist (the "relaod playlist") button.

My library has ca. 8000 Tracks, and i work over WLAN.

At my friend's iMac it works perfektly. Though he has a little smaller library.

FRED3RIK  Great app - works perfectly.

A feature request though: would it be possible to browse tracks on an iPod that is plugged in?

MATTPAT  That's a good idea, and you're not the only one to suggest it. I'll see what I can do about getting that working in a future version :)

MATT PAT  If you think you could give me a few more details on your configuration, and any error messages that pop up when you try to use the track browser (or specific problems), we can try to get this working for you.

    ****.

SCHMELDING  Overall, I think this app rawks. Generally, the interface could be tightened up and made to be more iTunes-like. I didn't get the "Enter a song name, etc." field at first. Why not simply call it "search" or something similar? That whole bottom area could be better refined from a UI standpoint.

    Some nifty feature requests:

A BIG, nice addition would be the introduction of some standard keystrokes (spacebar = pause/play, arrow keys to control volume and track skipping, etc.).

Random and Repeat buttons would be cool too.

Like I said above, this rawks. It replaces "Remote Remote" for this task, I love the Growl notification, and I think you're on the right track (so to speak). Awesome!

MATT PAT  Glad you like it :D

You're not the only person who has been pestering me for the space bar for play/pause. Volume controls are Command+Up and Command+Down. I'm going to try to have that in v0.9.

Following your suggestion, the placeholder text for the box will be changed to "Search (Title, Artist, Album)" (I left Title, Artist, and Album in there so users know what they can search for). I think I'm also going to add a search box to the track browser.

Speaking of the track browser, it's now 4x faster in v0.9! You'll notice a big difference.

    Thanks for the review!

SEBASTO  Tested with iTunes 4.9 and 5.0 under Tiger (both "client" and "server" side).

I didn't understand the search string, I have a -1708 error when I click on the "Play new track" button whatever the input is.

    no sound control (for 0.6 ? :)

it should be nice to have more information on the current track (elapsed/total time for exemple)

When the Remote iTunes is playing songs, the controls work (except "play new track").

    Keep on, keep on !

MATT  I'm not quite sure what's causing this error... I have no reference to error -1708, and I've never experienced this issue. The closest to this I have is -1728, which would occur if what you entered in the search string returned no results (and on this error, it should have displayed a user-friendly error message). More specifics, and the actual text of the error message would be helpful.

As for a volume control, this is already implemented in version TuneConnect 0.6 (name changed to avoid copyright issues). The new version should be available in a couple of days.

MATT  OK, did some more research... -1708 seems to have something to do with Apple Event processing, and also how different files are handled.

The research is indecisive, but here's what I recommend: make sure Remote Apple Events is setup properly, and then rebuild permissions on both computers. Hopefully that'll free up whatever file issues may be causing this.

    Hope it helps!

MATT  Just to give you an update, at version 0.6, TuneUp was renamed TuneConnect. Thanks to your suggestions, a volume control was added in v0.6, and a progress bar with elapsed and remaining time was added to the radically redesigned interface in v0.7. In addition, the search string now by default contains a small explanation of what to enter there, disappearing automatically when you click it to enter text.

    Thanks for your suggestions!
