DESCRIPTION
Sonar is a security tool that provides real-time reporting of file changes on your hard drive. It is a useful diagnostic tool and an invaluable aid for anyone who is serious about computer security.

Sonar reports file system activity. It reports all changes. It does not report reading activity. Sonar cannot prevent disk activity. It only can report it. However, you can use the information reported by Sonar to delete files you don't want on your hard drive.

Features:

  • Monitor untrusted software with Sonar to ensure it is not installing spyware or other unauthorized files without your knowledge. Or use Yank with Sonar technology to create simple uninstaller files.
  • Use Sonar to troubleshoot Spotlight-related slowdowns on your computer.
  • Developers can use Sonar to monitor how frequently their software writes to the hard drive. Use this information to optimize your program's hard drive usage.
WHAT'S NEW

  • Now compatible with Mac OS X version 10.5 (Leopard). It is expected to remain compatible with the soon-to-be-released Snow Leopard, Apple's new OS scheduled to be released later this year.

PALADINO  I gave "Sonar" a spin and have to say that the excellent and free "fSeventer" offers all the functionality and info that most anyone would want or need.

I'm staying with FSeventer.

I used Sonar's uninstaller to delete Sonar and then then used the outstanding and free "EasyFind" to look for any files/folders that Sonar's own uninstaller might have missed.

EasyFind found 14 of them.

I then typed in Matterform, and EasyFind came up with 8 more.

Interestingly, Matterform sells an uninstaller ("Yank"); its last iteration was way back in March '07 and which has gotten some less than stellar reviews from MacUpdate reviewers.

This does not inspire confidence.

FAUST RILY  Thanks for asking! Here is a run down of what Sonar has over a free program:

More details in the logs.

Searchable logs.

Permanent logs.

Kernel integration separated from the UI for improved reliability.

Tech support, manual, etc.

And, we're having a sale this week :-)

DOOBIEXX  Why does Sonar leave all those files even though the app was uninstalled with it's uninstaller and your company sells a removal app named "yank." As I said in the promo, I think these apps look okay but in reality they are updated for new operating systems and then support/updates are no where to be seen until next MAJOR OS upgrade. '07? But now yank, sonar, etc... have been updated and put on mu promo. I get the feeling it is all about the money and not quality or customer service. Fseventer does what this app can, if you need permanent logs you will have a pretty long database for this app. Hell, you sell an uninstaller that can't uninstall your own apps completely. As I said in the promo.... be wary. If you like it, buy it. Maybe you see something we don't. My observations have shown infrequent updates... all I am saying. My 2 cents.
