DESCRIPTION

Bricksmith allows you to create virtual models of your Lego creations and enjoy them in all three dimensions. It is an excellent tool for creating instructions of your Lego building projects.

Bricksmith offers access to thousands of parts and dozens of colors. It also provides model-making tools for creating steps and submodels for intricate creations. Best of all, you'll never run out of bricks.

The program is based on LDraw, a fan effort to create 3D models of Lego bricks. Converters are available which enable you to feed your creations into a raytracer to produce beautiful 3D renderings.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.1:

New Features

  • Supports step rotations
  • Streamlined Step Display UI
  • Moved file outline on to the main window
  • Improved line appearance
  • Toolbar buttons for Part Browser, Inspector, and Colors
Bugs Fixed
  • Fixed MLCad/LDraw spec compatibility issue which caused files containing multiple submodels to not render correctly in MLCad. (All model names are now internally forced to end in .ldr; old files will be automatically fixed as they are opened.)
  • LDraw/ldconfig.ldr is now read; previously Bricksmith would only refer to an internal copy
  • Renaming a submodel also renames all references to it
  • Duplicating models adds a "copy X" suffix
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

JETFIREDX  Very cool little program. Been working on a little model plane off and on for the last couple days and it is just good ol'lego fun!

Couple things I would like to see though. First, a display axis in the perspective view would be helpful.(I think my whole plane is turned 90 deg.) Second, either have the color of the preview piece be in the current color or have the color be able to be set to something other than white. Sometimes its hard to make out what you are looking at.

I also agree than a different way of finding the parts you want / having a "favorites" would be very nice indeed.

Please keep up the great work on it!

FONTHEAD  While this program has a lot of room to grow, it is one FANTASTIC piece of Lego goodness. Thank you thank you thank you! My only complaint is that changing the camera view could be better but otherwise an outstanding contribution to the LDraw community.

    MERLIN  pretty cool!

I can play lego again, but navigating through briks is not so easy and it will be nice to have a place where you tore your favorite pieces. And some bricks don't appear. Also deplacing elements only with arrows can be a pain.

RBRTPNTN  As a piece of freeware this is simply amazing!

Takes a while to get familar with the interface, but all the better for the fun your can have as you build 'stuff' and re-live your childhood.

ANONYMOUS  This is a cool program but it has a very high learning curve. I recomend starting off with a model rather than a Mini-figure because those take some real fine tuning to get them lo look right. But it is rewarding to sit back and see the finished product in 3-D.
