Safe Eyes provides all of the protection needed against undesirable material on the Internet. Using SafeBrowse.com's content filtering technology allows you to ban access to certain types of websites. The integrated popup blocker automatically closes annoying ads that appear when you visit websites. New to 2005 you can now monitor all of the websites that a user visits, and share this information with a Friend. Best of all, Safe Eyes 2005 is the only Internet control software that will call you on the telephone when access to undesirable material is detected.

JACKWEB  I wanted to like this, especially since it's offered free in Australia.

But it is just too intrusive. Its strength in picking out many sites well is also it's weakness. It can be over vigilant making web browsing virtually useless.

In the end it would better to just disconnect your internet and live in a monastery. Sorry but the internet nowadays is full of online media, i.e. videos, music, podcasts, photo albums etc, and I'm talking about the CLEAN stuff.

This software pretty much bans it all. Which is weird as in the logs it seems to usually know the difference between "banned" categories you have selected and things you've allowed.

Yet for some very odd reason even when you allow everything it still ends up randomly blocking things???? And don't get me started on the user/password system it uses.

It slightly creeps me out that it pretty much keeps tabs on everything you do (email, chat, online purchases) and possibly sends it all to their servers. And yes I know you can make changes in the admin options, yet like I said above it doesn't seem to work.

GAOSHAN  I'm interested in something like this but need to know how it works before I'll download it.

For example, I want to keep my kids away from christian and other religious web sites, churches, prosthelytizing web sites, creationist sites, that sort of stuff. Will this help me to block that sort of objectionable content? If so, I may give this a whirl.

HIPRODUCTIONS  This is AWFUL software for the MAC. If you have a Mac, DEMO THIS FIRST. Do not just use it for a few days and then pay these guys like I did. You'll be sorry.

First, it acts like AOL, taking over the Mac system in areas where it has no business, like, the program shuts off after a few minutes of what it calls "inactivity" thereby, disconnecting you from the internet, even if you are using broadband! It does this by hijacking your connection to begin with, you cannot connect without signing into Safe Eyes.

Secondly, it has a box to click that says "remember my name and password" you click it, it does not remember EVER. You have to sign in over and over and over everytime it disconnects you (just like AOL). Also, it will block ESPN fantasy football because the software interprets that as "online games" when it is actually statistics checking. As someone else posted, it blocks ebay, shutterfly, and many other useful sites. Yes you can go in and add an * next to the website for "allow" but that site will never operate properly after that. I still cannot view flash files on youtube consistently. The site just acts like it is loading forever and never plays. Any flash video sharing site is blocked entirely whether there is adult content or not. No problem, find the good sites, type them in to "allow" in the admin panel with an * and then??? Bamn! no workie! My whole system works far slower after having installed Safe Eyes. When I try to shut off my system, Safe Eyes blocks it and tells me I must "Quit Safe Eyes" which I do and then it just simply pops back on again all by itself...I click "quit" back on it comes! preventing a proper shutdown of my mac. Its annoying and more trouble than the money. I am going to investigate other systems and try to get the remaining amount of my money back.

MILCKYWAY  The best Webfiltering ever is still: don't connect to the internet if you can't deal with it.

JBRANDX  Safe Eyes is hands down the worst software I have ever used on my mac. It is full of holes with constant problems. Always freezing up. I can only browze for about 20 Min before it starts blocking everything and I have to restart. There is a known problem with macs sleeping (I was told this by their tech support) and apparently no plans to fix it. In most cases after sleeping I have to restart in order for the program to work. It is constantly blocking sites that it shouldnt be blocking such as ebay or news sites (when I go to try and fix it the sites are catagorized correctly it is just blocking catagories that I havent told it to block). The tech support is always pleasent on the phone, and quick to respond by email. However, tech support has 2 major problems (their hours end at 5pm eastern time, I am in utah...) and the other problem is, that as nice as they are they still cant fix my problems- time after time. I would reccoment Content Protect for your mac. It is more expensive but well worth it.

D9  I agree w/ the previous post. This is a product that shows great potential but is cheating its Mac users. One very important feature, the ability to regulate the amount of time allowed on the computer, is omitted from the Mac version. Also, program controls are limited. Plus, there seems to be an issue w/ remote administration via software like Apple Remote Desktop.

Bottom line, this software MAY some day be a great solution for parental control of computers, but right now, it's not there for Mac users.

GSHEARMAN  Although this shows promise, and the PC version has some excellent reviews, the mac version is still buggy and still feels like a beta version. More work is needed before I'll be forking out any money for this.

MARK  Why would you even ask that?

Because the developer uses the latest tools and compilers to offer people the best experience with this software I would assume.

DEVELOPER  It's only 10.4 because Apple didn't support the technology we are using before 10.4. We generally will not support an operating system the OS developer doesn't support. For instance we don't support Windows 95 either even though it is technically possible to build a filter for Windows 95.
