DESCRIPTION
TNG Calendar... There already is a calendar widget in Apple Dashboard, but there is none with a Star Trek - Next Generation look. In order to evoke some kind of "Trekkie-Feeling" within the Dashboard I tried to adapt my calendar design to the TNG computer panels. So watch out, it's time to change your calendar widget!

The TNG calendar widget includes all standard calendar functionality.

Features:

  • Current day is shown in a different colour
  • Future and past months can be displayed
  • Switch back to current date at any time
  • Weekday and month names available in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Romanian
  • Language can be changed in preferences
  • Calendar weeks start with Monday or Sunday
  • Six fonts selectable in preferences
  • Leap years are of course taken into account
  • All calendar settings are saved
  • ISO 8601 week numbers
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.8.1:
  • Code improvements
  • GUI improvements in preferences
  • Background issue during widget initialization
  • New icon
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

    ****.

SCHMELDING  I like where it's going, but for Trek "Purists" it's not quite right. The fonts should be in the "Swiss" or at the very least "Helvetica" family. Since developers can embed and use fonts within Widgets, I recommend to the developer finding the "Swiss 911" typeface. That was the official display font used on the show and work well for the Calendar heading. For the sake of usability, Helvetica should be used for the calendar day dates.

Just a thought -- take it or leave it. But please don't misunderstand -- I totally dig this widget.

JOE REALE  There is an LCARS font if you'd like to use that.

But I would have to agree that Sunday should be the first day. Other than that, it looks good.

ANONYMOUS  I'd like the option of having the calendar start with Sunday, not Monday,

SHERLOCK42  Agreed. I love the design, but I can't get my mind to function in Monday-first mode.

ANONYMOUS  I eagerly await more LCARS-themed widgets so I can pretend it's already the 24th century.
