PETER  I have to agree 120%. WordPerfect was superior to word in so many ways, but unfortunately at corel they did not see the potential. I am one of those who stuck to WP as long as I could because I loved the speed and ease of the program (even today the ease of some of the features of this program has yet to be beaten by other word processors, like word). If there are still someone out there at Corel with some visions left they would try to revive and rewrite this excellent program. It would be worth it, and I promise I would gladly pay the price as a customer. AMAZING that after so many years, there are still so many die hard WP-fans out there and yet none of those with responsibility sees the potential. AmAZIngÂ… It is one of those screaming lost opportunities through history – and yet, this one can still be revived in the hands of the right peopleÂ… (11/9/2005, Version: 1.0.2)

GRADUS  Thanks for this. I'm surprised the WordPerfect community is still alive. I stopped using WP four years ago when it became obvious that holding on to this program would get me nowhere. Now I can at least search my legacy files with Spotlight.

With its redraw glitches and obsolete export filters, WP has become almost unusable, but it really was Word plus Perfection back in its day. Though the interface looks dated, it's still amazing how it managed to balance ease of use with so many powerful features and options. It's such a shame that this app was acquired by one of the most inept companies in the software business. Blame Corel, not Microsoft, for the dominance of Word.

If you want to know more about one of the best word processors for the classic MacOS, a great source for all things WP with links to the free download of the full version, advice about running WP under OS X, scripts, macros, alternative icons etc. can be found here:

VANCOUVER VINCE  No disrespect to Gero, but Wordperfect on the Mac is a lost cause. Even the most diehard WP zealot has given up and already moved their files to one of many other formats.

Is there absolutely any point in maintaining an archive of WP files? Corel HATES the Mac - that will NEVER change. Corel - if there still around in 3 years - will still be as hostile to the Intel-based Mac as they ever were to the 68k or PPC Mac. Corel would rather put out a Penticton summer wildfire with legal Canadian 50's, than sink any money into a rebirth of Wordperfect for Mac.

Jeebus, MS makes 20% of their gross income from the Mac crowd. Bill and Ballmer apparently like money. But, Corel is too good for the likes of Mac crowd. Okay...

Why is Corel so clueless that they tried to push their almost D-grade CorelDraw in a market saturated with GOOD graphics apps? Perhaps the once excellent WP would have added some badly needed COMPETITION in the word-processor app category, it certainly would have garnered infinitely more appreciation.

Oh, well. Sorry for the rant. Thanks for thinking of us.
