DESCRIPTION
surfDude is a very fast, very small WebKit-based web browser. It's currently in early development but can already perform most browsing tasks quite admirably. It currently supports the following:
- Multiple windows
- External links (links in Mail.app, etc)
- Web icons
- Google searches
- Pop-up blocking
- Banner ad blocking
- Downloads [Temporarily Broken]
- and more.
It uses nothing but standard system elements and is very theme-saavy - This means if you apply a theme to your system in ShapeShifter or another theme program, surfDude will automatically match without any extra work by the themer or user.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 0.4:
- Icons in search field menu and user agent menu.
- Optional home button and corresponding menu item.
- New icon.
- Interface options split into its own preference pane and partially redesigned.
- Opacity slider in the Interface preference panel now has a minimum of 0.2 to prevent windows from completely vanishing when inactive.
- Slightly better support for "https://" URLs.
- "ftp://" links and URLs should now be forwarded to your default FTP client.
- Stripped some dead code, cleaned up active code.
- Preliminary work on the bookmarks menu started.
Bug fixes:
- External links (links in Mail.app etc) should now open in surfDude when clicked if surfDude is the default browser.
- Links in pages that open new windows should now do so.
- "Open in New Window" in link contextual menu now functional.
- Status bar text should now act more consistantly and more as expected.

CARZYMAC The browsing was very fast and the interface ran smoothly. Like the brushed metal/aqua interface options. I found that it would unexpectedly quit on occasion and there dosent seem to be a way to download files from and http source. But otherwise this is the best browser I've seen.

It's easy to create you own minimal Safari interface by turning various features off. So what's the point of this?

IINDIGO Because even though you can turn those features off, the bloat/clutter from them even being present is still there. On top of that, there are a few options that surfDude offers that Safari doesnt, and if you actually read the description, it uses fully native widgets (buttons etc.) that allow system themes to work even if the theme's creator didn't add buttons for it. It also happens to be my hobby/side project. I saw no harm in releasing it to the public, and people seem to like it, so...

OSXRULZ At 732k, I doubt it's using its own WebKit. Fast browser. As others have noted it needs some standard features like bookmarks. Tabs, while convenient are hardly a necessity. Keep up the good work.

ST00P!D M0NK3Y Tabs! AHHHHHHH! And BOOKMARKS! NEED BOTH! Also, a lot of sites recognize surfDude as an outdated browser. Maybe you should update the webkit you're using or something. And sites like LiveJournal or Gmail that use Rich Text formatting don't load so you can only type in plain text, which sucks. But it's still a ridiculously fast browser.

ST00P!D M0NK3Y Hmm...with some of the sites I go to that require secure log-ins, they recognize surfDude as an outdated browser. And Gmail automatically goes to HTML mode. I don't mind these little things. For all the important stuff I'll just use Camino, but tabs would be a great new feature for this app. This is such a fast little browser I can't even believe it.

ST00P!D M0NK3Y This is quite possibly the fastest browser I've ever used. If I just want to browse quickly, I'll just use this from now on. It could use more features like bookmarks and such, but for the ridiculous speed, I'm fine with just browsing. Pretty awesome.

ANONYMOUS Unfortunatly, I have seen far too many browsers like this. It is evident that the author of this browser has put in more effort than most of the "webkit" browser makers, but it's still not quite up to scratch.

WACKYMACS This is a great small browser, with a similar interface to Safari but with the unified window look, greeeat! With history, downloads, back/forward, and loads of other features I really like this minimal browser.
