DESCRIPTION
One Finger Snap is a Preference Pane that brings up the contextual menu whenever you click and hold down the mouse button. This means that you can do everything with a single-button mouse that you can do with a 2-button mouse.
Don't throw away that 1-button mouse.
Don't carry around a clunky mouse with your powerbook.
Don't think that you've lost a second mouse button when you switch from that other OS.
Just click and hold wherever you would normally right-click.

JIMW But FinderPop does this along with all its other features and it is donationware - i.e. you donate what you feel it is worth or nothing if that is your opinion of it. I donated some time ago. It has also been around since at least OS7.

HEAVY_SHOWER Drawing a marquee, Photoshop in my case, invokes it. I always slow down to a crawl when drawing the latter half of a marquee, as I contemplate precisely where I want it to close (it's easier to begin a marquee precisely where you want it to start. lol). Then, just as I'm about to release the mouse at precisely the right spot, POP HELLO LET-ME-ANNOY-YOU appears the contextual menu. Real pain. I have to turn Finger Snap off when doing PS. I haven't tried it a pen program...

GAZMAN Downloaded it, tried it and bought it, all in the one day. This is exactly what I've been looking for to use with my old PowerBook when I'm away from the office. Works well, not a single issue so far, and very reasonably priced.

JOEL SCHMIDT just buy a Mighty Mouse. Yes, it is $49 +taxes, but you can customise the buttons any way you want and also has a scroll wheel. In the long run, it's a better investment

SCOTT_R Except that buying a mouse isn't the best option for laptop owners; I try to REDUCE what I drag around, not add to it. And the Mighty Mouse is disappointing....

ANONYMOUS Serious problem with the software: In many programs you double click to select the word (triple click to select line) and press ctrl-click to get spell check option. Now one finger snap on, a double clicked word makes the line selected rather than bringing the contextual menu. | |

ANONYMOUS Nice, but since I have a two-button mouse, it would be nice to have a setting to stop when a mouse is present. I only need to use it when I'm using my trackpad.

OLD JEWEL SOFTWARE The contextual menu popping up over a scroll bar has been fixed as of version 1.2, please give it a try. Regarding different behavior in different apps, this is unfortuantely the way things happen in OS X. Some apps handle right-clicks one way and some handle them another. In general, if you hold the mouse button down until you hear the click sound, then release it, then you should get the contextual menu in just about any application. And of course, if you email me at feedback@oldjewelsoftware.com, I'll know about bugs quicker than if you just post them on macupdate.

In Finder list-view, if you click and hold the scrollbar, contextual menu pops up. If you double-click a word, but keep the mouse button down for the second click (or triple click for a paragraph) the contextual menu will not not show up, unless you release your mouse after the hold - in text apps, like DevonThink, VoodooPad, Hog Bay Notebook, TextEdit, Apple Pages, etc. MS Word and AbiWord show correct behavior and show the contextual menu during the hold.
