DESCRIPTION
AirPort Radar is a Dashboard widget that helps you quickly scan the area for local AirPort wireless networks. Features include:
  • Signal Strength at a Glance: Visual signal meters tell you the strength of the AirPort signal for an easy-to-read radar screen.
  • Sortable Network List: Click on a category to sort the list of networks by that category. Click on the radio waves symbol to sort by signal strength.
  • Connect to Open Networks: By simply clicking on the name you can connect to any network that is not password protected.
  • Remember Lost Networks: When a network falls “below radar” it won’t disappear from your radar screen right away. This is particularly useful when a network is right on the threshold - with AirPort Radar it won’t jump on and off the radar screen, it will just turn grey temporarily while it is too weak to connect to. You can choose how many scans a lost network stays on-screen with the “Scan Memory” setting on the back side of the widget.
  • Auto-Resizing for Various List Lengths: The AirPort Radar widget will automatically resize itself to accomodate longer or shorter lists of wireless networks.

THEMACJEDI  This is probably the best way to get that local WiFi info. I use it almost every day. It's simple to get to since it's a widget and it's very informative.

The other ways to get this info are not as easy or as quick.

Great widget. Something else I use a lot is Dasher. Brings up my Dashboard after certain inactivity and loads them all for you.

OSXRULZ  Well, there is this thing called personal preference. Maybe you've heard of it?

Some people would probably rather not have their menu bar cluttered with menu extras. You know, just sayin.

DCHAMMER  It's also handy in the instance that you are dealing with multiple networks that have the same name within the same vicinity. The menu bar options only will show one of them. This way you can specify which one to connect to.

Additionally you can see signal strength.

AET  Great little widget.

But why is it always (after given some running time) chewing up 1.10-1.30% of the CPU in the background?

NERFGUN  Fantastic little widget, does exactly what it says it does and looks pretty nice.

Suggestions for future releases: some graphical feedback (icon?) when the Mac is in Internet Sharing mode via Airport would be nice (currently it just goes blank). Also a collapsable line graph of signal strength history would rock.

WILLIAM  AirPort Radar won't work unless you have it installed in one of the two widget folders:

Library > Widgets

- or -

(Home) > Library > Widgets
